Jannik Sinner has once again upset Novak Djokovic. In the Wimbledon semifinals, held on Friday (July 10), the Italian ace secured a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over the Serbian legend, reaching the final at SW19 for the first time in his career.

Sinner, who now has improved his head-to-head record over Djokovic to 7-5, will square off against Alexander Zverev in the final. While the Italian will be playing his career’s second final in the grass-court Major, Zverev has reached his first final in the tournament after defeating home favourite Arthur Fery.

Sinner, with his win over the Serb, took his revenge for his Australian Open defeat. This year in Melbourne, Sinner’s run was ended by Djokovic in the semifinal (Djokovic later reached the final, losing to Carlos Alcaraz). Had Djokovic won, it would have been his first final in the grass-court Major following the 2024 season.

It’s so amazing to see him still producing this kind of level, and the match he played with Felix [Auger-Aliassime]. I was watching. The level was so high. He’s a true inspiration for all of us and also the younger generation… How much a good mindset can do to your body and mind as well. For me, he’s a true inspiration.

Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

Before arriving at Wimbledon, Sinner suffered a shock second-round upset at the French Open. Because full-body cramps hit him, Sinner, even though he was on the brink of winning, ended up losing in five sets.

These matches hopefully can help me for the future. That’s it. Every match is different and has its own story. I wouldn’t look a lot on head-to-heads. I think every match is different. I am very lucky to play against Novak.

Jannik Sinner added

Djokovic played in Paris before coming to Wimbledon. Joao Fonseca overcame a two-set deficit to knock the 24-time Grand Slam champion in the third round. The 2025 Hellenic Championship remains the last title that Djokovic won, while his last Big Title was the 2024 Paris Olympics, which he won by overcoming Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner on whether he has a superstitious ritual before the Wimbledon final

Jannik Sinner‘s team has been wearing outfits of the same color. When he was asked at the press conference after his quarterfinal win whether the team was wearing matching outfits for superstitious reasons, Sinner jokingly told them to ask his team. And after his latest win, he was asked whether he has a superstitious ritual before playing the Wimbledon final.

No, no. No superstitions. I’m very normal. I like to spend time with my team. With my friends. World Cup is now… I think tomorrow England is playing… I like to watch football at the moment. The final is, I think, at 4. It’s late afternoon. You can sleep a little later. I’m very relaxed. I don’t have anything I do the same thing over and over again. I also enjoy the moment. I know how rare these days are.

Although there will be no changes to Sinner’s rankings, whether he wins or loses in the final, Zverev has already removed Carlos Alcaraz from the second spot in the live rankings table.

Alcaraz was last seen in action at the Barcelona Open, where he suffered a wrist injury and was forced to skip not just the French Open but also Wimbledon. He was the two-time defending champion in Paris, while in the grass-court Major, he played in the final in the previous three seasons, beating Djokovic in 2023 and 2024 and losing to Sinner last year. The 23-year-old will also not be playing at the Canadian Open.
