Tom Kim found himself in the winners’ circle once again on Sunday as he took home the Genesis Scottish Open title. Following his 1st PGA Tour win since 2023, he revealed that Tiger Woods was the first person to text him.
The 24-year-old had a strong start to the event with an opening round of 65. He was one of the co-leaders along with Rory McIlroy, Bernd Wiesberger, Patrick Cantlay, and Rasmus Hojgaard after the first 18 holes.
Following a second-round score of 66, he posted a score of 68 on Saturday. He was thus 11-under par, 1 shot behind co-leaders Robert MacIntyre, Min Woo Lee and Matt Fitzpatrick at 12-under par.
With a pair of birdies in his first 4 holes, Kim took the solo lead at 13-under par. On the 10th hole, the South Korean international made his 4th birdie of the day and moved 2 shots ahead of the chasers.
Following birdies on holes 12 and 16, Kim made par on the final hole to finish the tournament 17-under par. At the end, Min Woo Lee was unable to chase him down, resulting in Kim’s 1st victory on the PGA Tour since the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open.

This was his first victory in over 1,001 days. In the media conference after this win, the 24-year-old revealed that Tiger Woods was the 1st person to text him and congratulate him for his victory.
This was my first win in three years, and the first person that texted me was Tiger Woods. Shows you the person he is and how much he cares.

Kim and Woods are currently teammates on the TGL. Woods has often been seen cheering him and the others on while also having some fun.
Woods is currently still away from competitive golf following his DUI arrest and rehab. The 15-time major champion did play in the TGL earlier this year alongside Max Homa and Kevin Kisner. Last month, he made his first public appearance since his car accident when the PGA Tour announced some huge changes.
Tom Kim was at a loss for words following emotional Genesis Scottish Open win
After nearly 2 years and 8 months, Tom Kim was a winner on the PGA Tour once again. As he finally broke through and won for the first time since 2023, the golfer was left emotional and was at a loss for words.

In October 2023, Kim successfully defended the Shriners Children’s Open title at the age of 21 years and 3 months. He thus became the youngest golfer since Tiger Woods to win 3 times on the PGA Tour.
Since that victory, there have been some heartbreaks for Kim. At the 2024 Travelers Championship, he lost in the playoff round to Scottie Scheffler. This was one of his 2 top-10 finishes that season.
The slump continued in 2025. While he made cuts in 17 of his 26 starts, he managed just 1 top-10 finish (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am).
This season, he has made the cut in 15 of his 17 starts. Last month, he recorded his 2nd top-10 finish as he finished 3rd at the U.S. Open behind Sam Burns and winner Wyndham Clark.
That strong performance at the Shinnecock Hills certainly helped boost Kim’s confidence. As he finally broke a winless run, he was left emotional.
Can’t really wrap my mind over it but just I think a round today, it was a lot of work. Just really cool to, this is where I finished to get myself out of here it’s really special and just a loss for words.

The momentum is now on his side as he prepares for the 154th Open Championship this upcoming Thursday. His best finish in a major tournament has been at the Open, where he finished T2 in 2023.
