Juan Soto will represent the New York Mets on Tuesday during the 2026 All-Star Game. Ahead of this game, the Dominican international got honest about his experience with the Mets and the New York Yankees fans.
Before his mega 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets, he spent a season with the Yankees. In December 2023, the Bronx Bombers acquired him through a trade from the San Diego Padres.
Ahead of the game, he joined the MLB on FOX crew. During this, Derek Jeter, the former captain of the Yankees, asked him a difficult question. He asked Soto about his experience dealing with the Yankees and the Mets fans.
The 5-time All-Star got honest about it. He expressed that both fan bases wanted their team to win and would let them (players) know if they were not performing well.
They’re both passionate. … They’re not here to wait to see you going through a slump or anything like that. They will let you know if they’re not happy. … They’re both hungry. They want to win.

During his lone season with the Yankees, Soto reached the World Series once again. He played an important role in the team’s first trip to the Fall Classic since 2009.
After their loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Soto became a free agent. Following weeks of speculation, he picked the Mets as his next stop and snubbed the 16-year, $760 million offer of the Yankees.
Soto was a beloved figure among Yankees fans. Some of them felt a bit betrayed by him following this move and burned his jerseys. Some fans, though, did wish him well and moved on from the incident.
In his first season with the Mets, Soto smashed a career-high 43 home runs. Despite that, he and his side missed out on the playoffs on the final day of the season.
This year, the Mets are once again struggling. They headed into the All-Star Break this year with a 40-57 record while having an interim manager at the helm following the firing of Carlos Mendoza.
The pressure is once again on Soto to deliver. In 78 games, he has 21 home runs and 51 RBIs. After missing the All-Star Game last year, he is the sole representative of the Mets this year.
Juan Soto comments on Mets’ struggles this season
The New York Mets are once again struggling this season. They headed into the All-Star break 17 games behind .500 and seem far away from a playoff team. During his conversation with the reporters, Juan Soto commented on the struggles of the team.

Last weekend, the Mets welcomed the Boston Red Sox at Citi Field. The hosts entered this series on the back of a series win against the Kansas City Royals. Before that, they had earned a split in the 4-game set against the Atlanta Braves.
Against the Red Sox, the Mets got swept. After losing 6-2 on Friday, they were shut out 4-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, they were leading 2-0 after a double and a home run from Francisco Lindor.
In the top of the 9th inning, the Mets blew the game. The Red Sox put up 2 runs on the board and tied the game at 2-2. As they failed to score in the bottom of the inning, extra innings were required.
A sacrifice fly from Anthony Seigler saw Mastaka Yoshida score for the Red Sox and give them a 3-2 lead, which they held on to win. The Mets thus got swept and finished the first half with a disappointing 40-57 record.
With the Mets being 12 games behind the final Wild Card spot, things are not looking good for them. Soto, however, has remained optimistic and believes that his team can still turn things around.
We have a long way to go. It’s not over until it’s over, so we keep pushing. … It doesn’t say we are eliminated. We’re still grinding.
Juan Soto told SNY

After the All-Star break, Soto and his team will take on the Philadelphia Phillies first before taking on the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers. They will need to have a strong start to the 2nd half if they are to keep their playoff chances alive.
