Among all the starting quarterbacks in the NFL, there are many who prefer to be quiet and go about their business of throwing the football. Others, such as Baker Mayfield, relish the taunts and trash talk that are usually a part of football games.

The 31-year-old has always played with a chip on his shoulder. After finding himself in a difficult situation at Texas Tech, he preferred to go his own way and walked on to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Despite losing a year due to then-NCAA transfer rules, the signal caller decided to bide his time and prove that he was what he claimed to be.

A Heisman Trophy later, he found himself with the Cleveland Browns. When it felt as if it was time to arrive, he was again looked over and traded away when his future behind Deshaun Watson looked bleak.

After a disastrous time with the Carolina Panthers, Mayfield eventually got his feet back under him with the Los Angeles Rams. That transitioned into a starting QB job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which he has kept to date.

For a player who has gone through all of these ups and downs and still fought to rise back up and prove his worth, it will take a lot for opposing players to rattle Baker Mayfield.

You got a problem spitting still? You still got a spitting problem?

Baker Mayfield yelled at Jalen Carter

This was the Texas native’s taunt towards the Philadelphia Eagles D-Lineman, after the latter decided to trash-talk the quarterback. As revealed on Netflix’s Quarterback Season 3, the Bucs star keeps some barbs in his ‘holster’ when needed, and took aim at the one thing Carter became infamous for.

Baker Mayfield had words for another Eagle

Netflix’s Quarterback Season 3 was released with Baker Mayfield, Jaden Daniels, Cam Ward, and Joe Flacco as the main cast. When the focus was on trash talk, the streaming giant released another clip where the Bucs QB was seen jawing with Eagles corner Quinyon Mitchell.

The latter was the one to start it when he yelled at Mayfield to stop whatever he was doing. To this, the two-time Pro Bowler asked what his name was.

Mitchell replied that he knew who he was. But the 6’1″ slinger kept repeating that he did not know him. This was reminiscent of what former running back Arian Foster did back in 2012, and Mayfield gave credit where it’s due.

I stole that one. I can’t take credit for that. I stole that one directly from Arian Foster back in the day. So I stole that from him, just letting a young player know that he hadn’t arrived yet.

This was the father of one, making it clear that he used that taunt to let Quinyon Mitchell know that he hadn’t arrived. The Eagles cornerback was irked by that clapback, as he had been playing at an All-Pro level.

Former Eagle slams Baker Mayfield for taunting Quinyon Mitchell

This clip of Baker Mayfield and Quinyon Mitchell was viewed over a million times on X. Among them, it seems only one had a major problem with how the Buccaneers star responded.

Y’all rather support or give love to dudes like Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold. But disrespect guys like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Now, these dudes that are not on the same level, they hear y’all talking about him, and they think they can say something to Quinyon Mitchell. One dude is an All-Pro. The other guy has never been that.

LeSean McCoy said on Speakeasy

The former running back made it clear that media members, such as his colleague Emmanuel Acho, are to blame for hyping up the likes of Mayfield. McCoy reiterated that the QB has been average or above average.

But since he gets a lot of hype from the media, he thinks he can talk to anyone, even though he does not have the accomplishments of his opponents. The two-time Super Bowl champion believes that this is the media’s fault.
