The number of clubs linked to LeBron James at this stage of his career is nothing short of remarkable. After an impressive 2025-26 campaign, especially during the playoffs, James showed the NBA world that he can still play at the highest level and contribute to a championship-contending team.
With James entering free agency for just the fourth time in his NBA career, a number of clubs have lined up and thrown their pitches at him in the last two weeks. But one of the few clubs not linked to James since he became a free agent are the Washington Wizards. There have been no reports of the club trying to even get in touch with his camp.
However, it looks like that is not the whole story. While the club may not have contacted the King, his former teammate Anthony Davis opened the door to a possible reunion.
A young die-hard fan of the Wizards asked Davis if there is any chance of James joining the club for the upcoming season. The 10-time All-Star revealed that they already discussed the possibility of playing together again.
Maybe. We had some conversations.

Anthony Davis shares a good relationship with James off the court. It was the four-time champion who pressured the Los Angeles Lakers to make a move for Davis in 2019. After a successful period together, Davis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster move at the trade deadline last year. It was a move that James was not aware of himself.
Unfortunately, Davis had a difficult time in Dallas as he struggled with injuries and could never make a name for himself during his time there. He was traded once again at the trade deadline this year as he found a new home with the Washington Wizards. There were rumors that Davis would want to leave the Wizards eventually, but he reiterated his desire to stay with the club, and it looks like he tried to get James on board as well.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James could have had a reunion
When James joined the Lakers in 2018, the purple and gold were going through a rough patch. They were a team struggling to make the playoffs and lacking star power after Kobe Bryant‘s retirement. But things changed after the arrival of James.
The Lakers became relevant after trading for Davis in 2019. James and Davis led them to their first championship after 10 years in 2020. They reached the Western Conference Finals in 2023, which was their best postseason finish since the 2020 title. But in a surprising move, Davis was traded to the Mavs for Luka Doncic.
After playing for the Lakers for eight years, James announced his departure by thanking the franchise. Since then, several clubs with championship goals have tried to contact James’ camp regarding his future. Davis was one of the few players, along with Tyrese Haliburton, who tried to recruit James to their respective clubs.
While James and Davis still share a good relationship, it is highly unlikely that they will share the court as teammates for the Wizards. There was a possibility that they would have a reunion in Golden State as the Warriors were linked to the former teammates a couple of weeks ago, but the Wizards have no intention to let go of Davis. Hence, it looks like a reunion of James and Davis is not on the cards at the moment.
NBA is hoping that LeBron James makes his decision by next week
There is no doubt that LeBron James is still the biggest name in the NBA. He may be entering his 24th season but that has not taken away his impact and influence off the court. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently spoke about how the league is eagerly waiting for his decision about his future, as they are waiting to fix the schedule after his announcement.

ESPN insider Dave McMenamin revealed that the league are hoping that James makes his decision as early as next week.
When it comes to his family James said he has certainly weighing the thoughts of his soon to be 12 year old daughter Zhuri. He made sure to tell her before he was leaving the Lakers so she heard it from him first. And he told her that her feelings of the decision would mean a lot to him I’m told that James is nearing that decision and folks around the league are hoping it comes as early as next week.

James seems to be enjoying his time in the offseason and is in no hurry to make any announcement for now. He is heavily linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and the Warriors. However, till the announcement is made, no one really knows where James will be playing next.
