Kevin Durant had the chance to return to the Golden State Warriors before he joined the Houston Rockets via trade. At the time, it was reported that his past skirmishes with Draymond Green prevented that deal from going through.
The 6’6′ forward was the one who originally recruited Durant to the team after they realized that LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers had figured out how to defeat them.
Three years later, when Green refused to give the ball up to Durant, who was both free and frantically asking for the ball, it led to an argument after the game, where teammates had to separate them. The following offseason, the Slim Reaper left the team for the Brooklyn Nets.
Even though there has been evidence of a beef, the two cleared it up on Green’s podcast. Fast forward to now, and the former Defensive Player of the Year revealed how their first incident panned out at the team.
They tried to tell me, ‘You need to apologize.’ And I told them, ‘I’ll talk to K, but y’all aren’t going to tell me what I need to say…’ I said, ‘Y’all about to mess this up. The only person that can make this right is me and K. There is nothing that y’all can do, and y’all are going to mess this up.’ And in my opinion, they messed it up.

Draymond Green says he laughed in Bob Myers' face after the Warriors tried to force him to apologize to Kevin Durant before suspending him for one game

As soon as Draymond Green said the last sentence, Kevin Durant did not hesitate to agree that the Golden State Warriors messed up the situation far beyond what happened between them. There was no need for them to intervene, and that is what made it worse.
Draymond Green reveals Warriors threatened to suspend him
Getting Kevin Durant’s acknowledgement on that revelation proves that neither he nor Draymond Green appreciated how the Golden State Warriors’ top brass was handling that situation. Then, the latter revealed how they were about to make it worse.

They told me right then and there, ‘We’re gonna suspend you for this game.’ I literally laughed in their face. And Bob (Myers) said to me, ‘Wow. That was not the reaction I was looking for or expecting.’ I said, ‘Well, either I’mma laugh in your face, or I’mma cuss you the f*** out. You pick. I’mma choose laugh. I think what you’re doing is funny, and so I’mma laugh.’
Green revealed
Since the 36-year-old declined to agree to the front office’s demands, they suspended him for the next game against the Atlanta Hawks. Green declined to answer any questions about the incident in their next game, mentioning that he and Durant had talked it through and were ‘moving on.’
That was then. For now, to reveal how it went down between him and the front office, it seems the latter were not willing to give Green the benefit of the doubt that he could possibly work this through with his teammate.
Draymond Green puts No. 1 pick rookie on the spot
Draymond Green has been using podcasts to clear up a lot of things that have been said about him and his teammates. Other than clarifying the Kevin Durant beef, he also has been criticizing those who have created narratives without proof, aka, Stephen A. Smith.
But he knows how to use his podcast for some fun as well, just as he put 2026 No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybansta on the spot at the Fanatics Fest in New York City.
The four-time All-Star put the rookie to the test on NBA stars, both current and former, and their nicknames. After the Washington Wizards star managed to get the first few right, Green asked if he knew who the Iceman was. He did not, and had to be coached about who George Gervin is. Then, Green asked who ‘The Human Highlight Film’ was.

To this, Dyabansta kept saying that it was Michael Jordan. Then, Green remarked that the man who owns that nickname was sitting right beside him. At that point, the BYU alum could not contain his embarrassment, missing Dominique Wilkins‘ nickname, who was sitting to his left.
