Phoenix Suns star Dillon Brooks has often been labeled as a “villain” in the NBA today. Since entering the league as the 45th pick in 2017, Brooks has been at the center of several controversial moments and has formed a few rivalries throughout his NBA career.
Brooks and LeBron James is one such rivalry. The two do not see each other eye to eye. Over the years, they have had quite a few heated exchanges on the court with Brooks instigating James almost every single time.
Speaking to Richard Jefferson and Chandler Frye on their podcast, the two former players brought up the idea of Brooks and James playing together. Brooks was open to it based on his response.
I watch him all the time. The game talks (can talk trash to) anybody.

LeBron James is not really known for his trash talking or getting under his opponents’ skin. Meanwhile, Brooks loves to play on the edge just to have an advantage over his opponents. James and Brooks have a long history of testy encounters.
Some have even gone as far as to call it the best one-on-one rivalry in recent sports history. While Brooks has claimed that he does not hate the four-time champion, no one gets under James’ skin better than the Suns forward.
Brooks is coming off his best individual campaign in the NBA. While Jefferson and Frye proposed the idea of Brooks playing alongside James, it is highly unlikely that will happen as the Suns have remained clear that they will not trade away Brooks.
If there was any chance of the two joining forces, it would have to happen in Phoenix. However, the Suns are one of the few clubs who haven’t been linked to James in the offseason at all.
Dillon Brooks reveals story behind courtside LeBron James staredown
There weren’t much expectations in the Suns last season after they traded away Kevin Durant. Many predicted them to miss the playoffs and end up in the lottery. However, Brooks had other ideas as he led the Suns to the playoffs where lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After the first round, the Thunder went on to face James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. With the Lakers down 3-0, Brooks was seen smiling in the front row in Game 4 at the Crypto.com Arena. The whole moment turned into a meme across social media.
When asked about it, Brooks provided an unexpected backstory behind the viral meme.
What’s funny is I got a ticket from Rich… It’s a good meme. He was talking to a LA fan, he was like, ‘I know you throwing shade at me. I know, I know.’ So I’m looking at him like, ‘Oh my god he’s really worried about this fan right here? You’re down 3-0 now.’ I’m just cracking up. I’m telling my agent on the side, ‘Damn he’s really focused on the wrong right now.’

Several fans thought Brooks was there to troll James. When he was captured on camera, James was at the free throw line. It remains unknown if ‘King James’ was aware of Brooks’ presence courtside.
Skip Bayless explains why ‘he lost respect’ for Dillon Brooks
Sports analyst Skip Bayless has made a name for himself with his hot and bold takes. He is an avid fan of Michael Jordan and, hence, is a huge critic of James. The veteran journalist has made a career out of criticizing the 41-year-old.

After Dillon Brooks explained his side of the story to attending Game 4 between Lakers and OKC, Bayless accused him on selling out to James.
I just lost respect for Dillon Brooks, who admits he got his courtside seat at the Laker playoff game from Rich Paul. Come on, don’t sell out to LeBron. Don’t lose your “Dillon the Villain” edge vs LBJ. Don’t turn into Draymond, going from LBJ enemy to business partner.

Brooks’ agent is signed with Klutch Sports Group, which would explain the connection to Rich Paul. While Bayless believes that Brooks is selling himself to James, it is hard to envision that Brooks will take it easy on James the next time they share the court in the upcoming season.
