CM Punk Vows to Break Cody Rhodes’ Heart at SummerSlam
CM Punk made some eye-opening remarks about Cody Rhodes on this week's SmackDown.

CM Punk and Cody Rhodes had a heated exchange on this week’s SmackDown stemming from Rhodes previously alleging Punk of purposely flipping the Undisputed WWE title right into his eye at Saturday Night’s Main Event. They even had a backstage confrontation over it later that night at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking of SmackDown this Friday, ‘The American Nightmare’ gave an explanation as to why this needs to end with him beating Punk at SummerSlam. Rhodes talked about the ‘Best in the World’ dropping the Pipe Bomb and creating a blueprint for men like Rhodes to emulate.
Even though Cody revived himself in this business in his own way, he kept drawing parallels to Punk with the fans wanting ‘The QB1’ to be like what Punk had always been.
Rhodes added that he’s wrestled the absolute best and had never sweat any of them except for CM Punk. ‘The Prodigal Son’ doesn’t feel like he has a chip on his shoulder, but it all changes the moment Punk walks out. That makes Rhodes feel like he does have a chip on his shoulder, which is exactly the weight of the Undisputed WWE Title.
"For this story to have the proper ending…I HAVE to beat you at SummerSlam."

And that’s why it has to end with Rhodes taking it off Punk come SummerSlam. CM Punk eventually fixated on Rhodes saying he still respected Punk but doesn’t like him.
‘The Second City Saint’ said it was just Cody lying to himself because the reality was that he can’t handle the pressure of beating someone he loved. For Rhodes to rise to the occasion against someone his equal, like Punk, he needed to make himself the victim and everyone else his enemy.
Punk said if the likes of Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and John Cena were Rhodes’ enemies, it made the Chicagoan his only friend, and as he promised Cody years ago, he wouldn’t stab him in the back. Punk will do so when Rhodes is totally aware of it, and it’ll happen at SummerSlam, which is where he proclaimed to break Cody’s heart.

Back on the mic, the former AEW EVP reminded Punk about their upcoming tag team matches on the house shows, with next Thursday being their last one.
Rhodes revealed he’s having a gift planned for Punk as an apology for the beating he’s about to inflict on the Undisputed WWE Champion at SummerSlam. ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ retorted by saying he was going to give Rhodes a whooping wrapped in a lesson called loss.
And if Cody Rhodes were smart enough to learn something, he’d know that Punk was best in this world, in that ring, on that microphone, and nobody could touch him, not even Dusty’s kid.
As CM Punk dropped the mic and proceeded to leave, his challenger asked for the music to be cut over Punk bringing up his late father. Rhodes wanted Punk to hear the music he’d hear at SummerSlam when ‘The QB1’ becomes a 4-time world champion.
Why Cody Rhodes views SummerSlam as a first-time-ever clash with CM Punk?
Prior to this week’s SmackDown, Cody Rhodes stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During the conversation, he talked about his upcoming SummerSlam clash with CM Punk being a first-time-ever occurrence for him even though they have wrestled one-on-one in 2008.
‘The American Nightmare’ recalled the time when he made his WWE debut and was oblivious to the fact that his late father, Dusty Rhodes basically asked CM Punk to look out for his son.

The erstwhile Stardust remained unbeknownst to it for years and got to hear his father’s wish from Punk during a promo they did quite recently. So it essentially made the ‘Second City Saint’ fill in that big brother kind of role in Rhodes’ career. He then said it didn’t need to be that way anymore, as he’s 41 and all grown up.
Cody Rhodes feels like he and CM Punk have never faced each other before, despite wrestling on WWE TV 18 years ago:

Circling back to their forthcoming showdown with Punk, the former ‘Dashing One’ thought it was actually his first time facing the ‘Cookie Master’ as the ‘American Nightmare’ that stands as an equal to the 47-year-old. Rhodes also talked about Punk flipping the title into his eye at Saturday Night’s Main Event, for which he promised a receipt coming Punk’s way soon.
