WWE Nixed Bron Breakker’s Royal Rumble 2026 Win Over This Fear
Bron Breakker would've gone on to win the 2026 men's Royal Rumble match had it not been for people in WWE creative backpedaling.

Bron Breakker had his career-altering moment taken away after WWE passed on his originally planned Royal Rumble win earlier this year. As revealed in season 3 of WWE Unreal, the WWE vice president of creative writing, Jonathan Baeckstrom, thought that Breakker winning the Rumble and heading into WrestleMania as the challenger was a more organic build for him.
WWE CCO Triple H, however, argued that the risk with pulling the trigger on Breakker would’ve been whether he was actually ready and mentally prepared to handle it. He also wondered if the fans would accept Breakker that early. Baeckstrom ultimately said that putting the world title on Breakker might come across as WWE shoving him down the fans’ throats.

Hunter agreed with Baeckstrom’s assessment, and even though the ‘Cerebral Assassin’ believed they could’ve had a shocking moment out of Bron Breakker’s world title win, the WWE CCO remained worried about forcing the second-generation Steiner to the top. And that’s how Breakker’s planned Royal Rumble triumph never came to be.
The Vision‘s powerhouse was entrant #2 in the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match and was about to go toe-to-toe with Oba Femi. However, the former Wolfdogs member got attacked by a black-hooded masked figure at ringside. It resulted in Breakker getting thrown over the top rope by Femi in seconds as the match started. It sent him on a downward spiral in hindsight.
At the start of this year, the former NXT Champion received a crack at the World Heavyweight Title against CM Punk. The Georgia-born wrestler failed to topple Punk. It got the fans thinking Breakker winning the Royal Rumble to again challenge Punk for the gold at Mania and becoming the world champion was written in stone.
However, back then, the fans on social media deemed a Punk/Breakker rematch not WrestleMania-worthy and wanted the ‘Best in the World’ to defend the title against a marquee name. They got exactly that when Roman Reigns won the Rumble and eventually downed Punk to add a seventh world title reign to his Hall of Fame-worthy WWE resume.
How did Bron Breakker pop a hernia mid promo?
The on-screen presentation of Bron Breakker following his Royal Rumble fiasco saw him going absolutely berserk and destroying the furniture at ringside on Raw. He even turned the reinforced commentary table upside down in a moment that said to have contributed to his hernia. However, that was not the case.

As revealed by Breakker himself in the latest season of WWE Unreal, when he was screaming on the mic ranting about Raw GM Adam Pearce, his entire midsection locked up. The former Intercontinental Champion couldn’t feel it until he got backstage and hunched over. Breakker held his stomach to gauge the issue.

As he went to do his next shot, he just couldn’t stand up. And that’s how he discovered that he’d popped a hiatal hernia. It required immediate surgery and caused Bron Breakker to miss over two months of WWE programming. He returned on the first night of WrestleMania to cost Seth Rollins his match against Gunther.
The rising star then feuded with ‘The Visionary’ and went on to have a trilogy of matches with the 6-time world champion. Breakker ended up winning only one match against Rollins at Backlash, and he lost the other two, with the last one being inside a steel cage at Night of Champions.
He’s now pulling off tag team duties in the Vision alongside Austin Theory, and that doesn’t sit well with the majority of fans. Once pegged to be a major player in the main event scene of WWE, he is now being made to bully a moribund tag team division of the company.
However, the fact that he got injured at the worst possible time also needs to be factored in while reviewing Breakker’s current state in WWE. Moreover, some fans also believe that the rise of Oba Femi has placed him comfortably ahead of Breakker in the “next big thing in the company” role that Bron Breakker was initially pegged for.
