LeBron James was the main headliner throughout the offseason ever since it was confirmed that he would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after eight years. While many predicted that he would end his career with the Lakers after joining them in 2018, James decided to test free agency for the fourth time in his career.
The four-time champion was linked to multiple teams. He was expected to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat. But in the end, James surprised everyone by embarking on a new journey with the Philadelphia 76ers.
During James’ free agency saga, another team that showed interest in him was the Golden State Warriors. After missing out on James, Draymond Green was confronted about it on TNT Sports’ Dunkman World Championships broadcast.
Green was joined by Dwight Howard and influencer Cash Nasty on a panel. Nasty had a joke for Green after James signed with Philly.
I’m sorry for your loss man…

LeBron James and Green share a close friendship with each other. The Warriors surprised the NBA world when they approached James’ camp after he became a free agent. Stephen Curry was even open to playing alongside the King when asked about it.
The Dubs tried everything they could to get him on board. Green did not hide his interest as he played an active role in trying to get James on board. The former Defensive Player of the Year revealed that he did throw a Warriors pitch at James when the two hung out a couple of weeks ago.
No hard feelings for Draymond Green after LeBron James’ decision
The rumors and reports were endless for three weeks till James made his announcement. The Cavs and the Heat were the frontrunners in trying to secure his signature, but some believed that the Warriors stood an outside chance as well, especially after he revealed that his daughter could play a major role in his future. With his family in LA, the Warriors seemed to be a safe bet.

After Nasty directly addressed James’ refusal to go to the Warriors to Green, the 36-year-old responded with no hard feelings:
How is that my loss? It would’ve been nice, but it’s no different than what it’s always been.
Green and the Warriors were hopeful to sign James in the summer. The Warriors veteran went as far as to confirm that James would run their offense if he joined them. Unfortunately for the Dub Nation, James ended up joining the 76ers.
The Warriors re-sign Draymond Green to a one-year deal
Warriors’ interest in James was further fueled when Green declined a $27.7 million player option. It was done to give the Warriors extra financial room to pursue James.
NBA insider Shams Charania has reported that Draymond Green will return to the Warriors for one more season.
Draymond Green has agreed to return to the Golden State Warriors on a one-year, $27.7 million deal, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. The contract is the same Green opted out of to give the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James, but the sides land his return Tuesday.

The Warriors are coming off a poor 2025-26 campaign. They finished 10th in the Western Conference standings and were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the Play-In Tournament. The Dubs have not finished above sixth place in the standings since lifting the championship in 2022.
With Curry’s championship window getting smaller, the Warriors front office tried their best to acquire a superstar. They failed in landing Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline this year and failed once again with James in the summer. Things are not looking promising for the Warriors heading into next season.
