LIV Golf is still alive. As per reports from the New York Post, the breakaway tour is closing in on at least a $250 million investment that could help it survive.
There have been dark clouds over the future of LIV Golf since mid-April. After the Masters Tournament, reports emerged that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) was going to pull the plug on them and stop their funding.
The league was launched in 2021 with the backing of the PIF. Its governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, served as the chairman while former World No.1 Greg Norman served as the CEO.
In late April, Al-Rumayyan stepped down from his post, confirming the reports of the Saudis pulling away. The sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia had reportedly invested over $5 billion in LIV Golf.
Since the withdrawal of the PIF, current CEO Scott O’Neil has been in talks with potential investors. The former NFL and NHL executive expressed that the league needed around $250 to $300 million to stay afloat.
As per the New York Post, they will be getting this sum soon. According to their report, the breakaway tour has received “multiple written commitments from blue-chip investment firms that would serve as anchor investors to support the league” in the future.

The timing of this report has sparked huge discussions. This comes just after reports claimed that the Team Championship event scheduled to take place from August 27 to 30 at The Cardinal in Michigan had been cancelled.

Last week, former major champion Martin Kaymer had spoken about this. The Cleeks GC captain had expressed that the $40 million team championship finale was “highly unlikely” to take place.
At the moment, there is no official confirmation from LIV Golf regarding this. For now, the league is set to play at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster course in New Jersey next week.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil reportedly sent an email to players on Wednesday

That does not seem to be the case now, as the league reportedly closes in on a huge investment deal. Amidst this, CEO Scott O’Neil was reported to have sent an email to the players.

As per insider Tom Hobbs, O’Neil sent an email and expressed that he was encouraged by the ongoing discussions that would support LIV 2.0.

O’Neil had previously expressed that there would be several structural changes to the league. Some reports claimed that the league would have 5 team majors and 5 signature events.
As of now, nobody knows how the tour will look in 2027. Only time will tell how much this reported investment deal will help them.
