One of the major discussions in the NASCAR community at the moment it the length of the cup races. It started after IndyCar legend Scott Dixon claimed that the stock car racing elite division events are too long to follow and the likes of reigning champion Kyle Larson agreed with the comments.
2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick though had a deferent take on the issue. On the latest episode of his Happy Hour podcast, the racing legend pointed out that NASCAR has shortened enough races and the conversation should about something else. He believes the issues is that stage breaks and caution sequences are taking too long.
I think that we’ve shortened enough races. I say that we need to get our butt in gear and figure out how to get the cautions to be faster. We got stage breaks that take forever. We had 30 minutes this week in two flag green flag laps. We had two green flag laps in 30 minutes, and one was for a 12-minute debris caution. Ryan Blaney wrecked right after. That sequence took 30 minutes.
Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.
NASCAR needs to invest more into making sure that every caution sequences ends as quick as possible and the drivers are back racing each other for wins. There is no need to shorten races, instead it needs to be made more efficient. That includes weather delays or other technical issues that affects that natural flow of racing.
We’ve just got to get better at efficiency of running the race and make things happen quicker, because it can’t take 12 minutes to get a debris caution. Like, we’ve got to change the rules to make these things happen faster. We don’t need to shorten the length of the race. We just need to make the race more efficient.
Kevin Harvick added via Happy Hour.
Then Kevin Harvick asserted that instead of shortening the races, the best to reduce the time is get rid of stage racing. But that not going to be easy considering the restarts are one of the most exciting parts about Cup racing. One thing they could do is not have multiple caution laps before to start of the next stage.
I think that if you’re gonna shorten races, then you’re gonna have to get rid of stage racing. And it’s like when we get to the end of these stages, and you know that the stage is going to end, and then we got to run three caution laps to get to end the stage, and then we got to get the pits open and then we have to do all these things that we’re doing.
Kevin Harvick asserted.
Scott Dixon becomes NASCAR team owner weeks after the criticism that shocked Kevin Harvick
Despite the issues he has with racing format, Scott Dixon had real love and respect for NASCAR. This might be reason behind his decision to become one of the co-owners of Legacy Motor Club alongside Jimmie Johnson. He joins a list of sporting legends and entertainment industry stalwarts, who invested in LMC as part of a strategic ownership group.

This is not a traditional ownership group. It is a collection of people who understand competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and how enduring organizations are built. They come from different worlds but share a common belief: that LEGACY can become something fundamentally different within motorsports and culture.
Jimmie Johnson said in a statement.
The group include the likes of Bryce Harper, Kelly Slater, Darius Rucker, Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan. It’s a legendry group to be part of and their expertise in different areas of sports entertainment can potentially help the sport as well as LMC to thrive in the long run.
