The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again broken the internet. According to Jeff Passan, the 2-time defending World Series Champions have landed Tarik Skubal through a trade from the Detroit Tigers.

Earlier this week, Skubal reached the 1,000 strikeout mark during his start against the Baltimore Orioles. He threw 6.2 innings and picked up 6 strikeouts. As he left the mound, fans at Comerica Park stood up and gave him a rousing ovation.

This appearance indeed turned out to be his final game for the Tigers. The 2-time Cy Young Award winner is now joining the Dodgers in a trade deal.

To land Skubal, the Dodgers gave up 3 top prospects from their farm system. Two of them, Zyhir Hope (outfielder) and River Ryan (right-hander), are ranked in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list. The third player in this package is another right-hander in Brady Smith.

Skubal is now the 6th reigning Cy Young Award winner to be traded in the middle of the season. Him joining the Dodgers gives them a massive boost in their bid for the three-peat.

The Dodgers do have some injury issues in their rotation. Reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani has not pitched since July 3rd, while top names like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are yet to return to the team.

Tarik Skubal has finally been traded. The Detroit Tigers gave up their ace pitcher in exchange for a few top prospects from the Los Angeles Dodgers instead of losing him for free.

This development has caused havoc on social media once again. The Dodgers have previously faced huge backlash for their spending, with many slamming them for “ruining baseball.”

Fans on X once again expressed their displeasure. Many called out the league for this and raised their voices for the implementation of a salary cap. One user wrote, “We need a lockout” while making their feelings known.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

With Ohtani and Skubal, the Dodgers are now the first team to have a reigning 2-time Cy Young Award winner and a reigning 2-time National League MVP on their roster.

By landing Skubal, the Dodgers bolstered their chances of a historic three-peat. In the long history of MLB, only 4 times has a team won 3 successive titles in MLB. The New York Yankees have done it 3 times, while the A’s are the other team to achieve this feat.

The southpaw knows he has a huge role to play now. With him in the rotation, the LA-based side is going all-in for a 3rd consecutive World Series title.

I’m excited to be a Dodger. I’m excited to get down there and meet all those guys and chase three championships in a row. It’s hard to do, so I’m excited to be a part of that.

Tarik Skubal told the reporters as per MLB.com

Skubal is 7-5 for the season in 16 starts with a 2.79 ERA. In May, he underwent surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow.

He would return in less than 6 weeks and got back in the pitching rotation of the Tigers. Now he will pitch for the Dodgers.

Speaking of the NL West side, they lost 3-2 against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday and dropped the series. The AL East side will be aiming to complete a sweep of the reigning champions on Sunday.
