Since the start of the Next-Gen era the Superspeedway racing has been a sour grape, as the new design as well as the rule package leads to more wrecks as well as laps under yellow, instead of fluid green flag racing. NASCAR has recently made some changes to rule package which will make debut it the upcoming Coke Zero Sugar 40, and it is seen as a move in the direct direction.
EX-racer Jeff Burton doesn’t seem to fully agree with the change, as on his latest appearance on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast, discussed the changes. He warns the sport against penalizing driver who are aggressive on the tracks like Daytona and Talladega, as they make racing better as they are the only ones not afraid to make the risky runs.
I think a package that tries to, that rewards people for being aggressive is the kind of package that makes the best racing at Daytona and Talladega. Not being afraid to make a run. When you get a run, take it. And this gives that opportunity. But I have seen it, we have seen it cross over and be too much and just be out of control.
Jeff Burton told Dale Jr.
The host of the podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr. discussed the rule changes and give the props to CEO Steve O’Donnell for listening to the fans and making changes. He admitted that the senior sport official would be more anxious that anyone when the green flag race start in the regular season finale at Daytona.
I just can’t imagine the anxiety that a Steve O’Donnell is gonna have as they’re coming around turn four and the pace car’s getting ready to drop on the pit road to start that race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. believes NASCAR is going to experiment more with the new caution rules
In the same podcast with Jeff Burton, junior talked about the new stage break rule change. From the next race at Iowa, if a caution comes within 10 laps of a scheduled stage break, that would be considered the caution. This is done to avoid running overwhelming laps under yellow.

It was change that was long overdue and Dale Jr. sees this as the first of many changes coming. He asserted that the sport should now shift the focus to shortening the caution period and making them more efficient by speeding up the process.
This should really help move things along. They are still working on how they can shorten up standard traditional cautions. So, we’re not done, and I’m sure there’s gonna be some things that’ll come in the many, many months down the road leading into next season, where we’ll get better at trying to speed up that process.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Junior is on point, as the fans deserves more green flag racing and it would create more exciting racing as the team teams would be forced to be more strategic. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the sport in the coming race week at Iowa and the remaining races of the season with the new rules.
