Islam Makhachev remains one of the UFC’s most dominant superstars. The Dagestani star moved to welterweight after ruling the 155-pound division.
Despite entering a new weight class, Makhachev showcased his dominance at UFC 322. The Russian phenom dismantled Jack Della Maddalena to win the welterweight title. However, Ian Garry poses a unique challenge at UFC 330.
Garry presents a challenge with his striking and 6-foot-3 frame giving him a significant physical presence. The Irishman is also known for his strong takedown defense, which he showcased against Belal Muhammad at UFC Qatar.
Makhachev specializes in grappling and wrestling, while the champion has predicted he will finish Garry inside three rounds. UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has now weighed in, believing Makhachev will overpower the Irish superstar with his strength at UFC 330.
People are saying, there’s reports across the board, that he’s the strongest person people have every fought. So physically strong, which is something you can’t see on TV… When you watch an opponent right, you can always see, the speed that they move, the techniques that they use, and the game plans all that kind of stuff. What you can’t see is how strong somebody is.

Aspinall has previously compared Makhachev with UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov in a potential prime-versus-prime matchup. The UFC heavyweight champion favored Makhachev, citing his more dangerous striking while considering their grappling abilities similar.
Garry remains confident in his abilities and believes Makhachev has never faced an opponent like him inside the Octagon. The Irishman sees his kicks and striking as potential deal-breakers and aims to score a major upset against the two-division champion.
Makhachev has faced some of the most dominant fighters throughout his career, with Alexander Volkanovski standing out among his toughest opponents. The UFC featherweight champion faced Makhachev twice, losing the first fight by unanimous decision at UFC 284 before suffering a first-round knockout at UFC 294.
Volkanovski advised his teammate Jack Della Maddalena before UFC 322 that taking Makhachev to the ground was a major problem. The Australian stressed that the Dagestani star has specialized in wrestling and grappling for years. However, the result at UFC 322 was clear as Makhachev dominated JDM on the ground throughout the contest.
Tom Aspinall’s praise for Islam Makhachev highlights the champion’s strength and dominance against elite opposition. With the British champion boasting a 100% finish rate and ranking among the UFC’s strongest heavyweights, his assessment may offer a trailer for what awaits Ian Garry at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Islam Makhachev hilariously questions the quality of UFC gloves
Islam Makhachev is undoubtedly one of the UFC’s hardest-working fighters, with discipline remaining central to his career. Much of that mentality was influenced by legendary coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, whose strict training system emphasized discipline and hard work.
Ahead of his UFC 330 title defense, Makhachev appears to be training at NCMMA in New Jersey for his final preparations. The champion has been seen participating in high-volume training sessions and grappling drills.

Makhachev also appeared to have some complaints during training, particularly about the quality of the UFC gloves he was using. He showed the gloves wearing out easily, with their color coming off as he jokingly tried rubbing it onto Abubakar Nurmagomedov’s face to demonstrate the quality.

Makhachev has faced UFC glove issues before, including concerns with the promotion’s newer design ahead of his UFC 302 fight against Dustin Poirier. The former two-division champion had problems with the gloves during preparations, and the UFC later discontinued the design.
