When any basketball fan hears the name Ben Simmons, they remember how a top-tier talent wasted his potential after his infamous playoff choke under the basket.
Coming out of LSU, there was huge promise of a playmaker of his size and skill, easily dominating the league for a long time. During his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, it seemed as if he was on course to fulfil it.
Rookie of the Year, three All-Star appearances, one All-NBA third-team selection, and two All-Defensive first-team nods left fans to believe he was the best version of an elite two-way guard.
Those accolades and the way he played masked his shooting struggles. But that playoff game raised questions about his mindset, as everyone felt he did not have it in him to become elite.
Then came his controversial exit from the Sixers and his multiple injury-laden seasons, which led some former players and analysts to flame him for essentially hoodwinking NBA teams into paying him big money but not playing.
Time and again, Simmons has tried to prove through offseason workouts that he was going to get better. But nothing came of it, and he eventually found himself without a job. Now, he is trying to get back into the NBA.
He does have an offer from a West team to come to a training camp.

Fans tear into ESPN reporter for hyping up Ben Simmons
When fans caught wind of this revelation, they quickly turned their angst towards Marc J. Spears. They wondered why he was talking about a player who has been nothing but a disappointment.
Fans felt that this was Spears doing a PR campaign for Ben Simmons when there are other players the league would be better off with. Check out examples of those reactions below.

In Marc J. Spears’ defense, he was merely reporting on something that came to his attention. Ben Simmons is working hard in Australia, as he bids for a return to the NBA. However, his legacy is tainted enough that anyone who tries to talk about him ends up in the firing line.
Ben Simmons’ interest in reuniting with 76ers might not work
When reports first came out about Ben Simmons working out in his home country, rumors started that he was angling for a return to the Philadelphia 76ers. After LeBron James joined them, the franchise became a championship contender.

Usually, veteran players are attracted to such a situation, which explains why those rumors first came into existence. But the Sixers filled their roster with enough players, and might not have space to sign one of James’ closest friends.
That was the clearest indication that they were not interested in signing the player who essentially held them at gunpoint a few years ago. The franchise paid the point guard nearly $75 million and ended up wasting what was seen as the best young years of their famous ‘Process.’
Had Simmons achieved his potential and not folded in the postseason, the Sixers may have had some level of success when Joel Embiid was also in his prime.
