Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks are still on top of the world after an incredible 2025-26 campaign. He and his teammates delivered the franchise their first championship in 53 years and its third overall.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as one of the strongest contenders to challenge the defending champions from the Eastern Conference heading into next season. They had arguably one of the best offseasons for any NBA team in recent years after the acquisitions of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James.

The NBA teased its 2026-27 schedule release on Tuesday. The opening night turned out to be a blockbuster clash as the Knicks get their title defense underway against the 76ers at Madison Square Garden on October 20.

Brunson made an appearance on the “3rd Hour of Today” show on Tuesday and was asked about the clash on opening night of the 2026-27 campaign.

Fireworks for sure. I mean they’re going to be electric; they’re going to be definitely a team to keep your eye on. They reloaded this year. It’s going to be a tough test. But will be ready.

The clash between the Knicks and the 76ers will be a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals. The Knicks sealed the series in convincing fashion as they swept the 76ers.

Jalen Brunson and the Knicks will be excited to have the ring ceremony in front of their fans on opening night at home. The Knicks guard has turned into a fan favorite in the city of New York and has been credited with uniting the city like never seen before.

New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers will be a blockbuster clash

The 76ers did not stand a chance against the Knicks in the playoffs last season. Hence, they will be looking for some revenge as the defending champions look to get over their championship hangover at MSG.

A lot of stars will be on show when the two sides meet each other. The 76ers made some big moves in the summer when they traded for Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics and signed LeBron James as a free agent. The two stars will be joining forces with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

On paper, the 76ers may boast the most dominant starting five in the league today as presently constructed. However, with so many stars in the lineup, the Sixers may take some time to build team chemistry; with the talent they possess, there is no doubt they pose a real threat to the Knicks next season.

Following James’ move to Philly, many within the NBA world were expecting the Knicks and 76ers to face off against each other on opening night, and the NBA has delivered. With so many stars expected to take to the court in one of the most iconic arenas in the NBA, it may be too early to tell, but the blockbuster clash could be a potential conference finals preview.

Jalen Brunson has not really thought much about LeBron James’ move to Philly

LeBron James surprised everyone when he announced that he would be joining the 76ers on a two-year deal three weeks ago. His move to Philly has seen many label the upcoming campaign as a “championship or bust” season. But if there is any player capable of always meeting the expectations, it is the King. James has delivered a championship wherever he has gone.

In a recent interview, Brunson was asked to share his thoughts on James’ move to Philly. He said:

Honestly…There’s been a lot on my plate since we won…When it comes time to get back with my team we’ll focus on that.

James’ impact on the 76ers has already been felt off the court. He is still very much the face of the league, as it can still be seen after the 76ers dominated the national broadcasting games.
