The 2026 NASCAR season witnessed one of its biggest heartbreaks, as two times cup champion Kyle Busch died due to severe pneumonia. Recently there has been some talks about expediting the legends inevitable Hall of Fame entry and this has gotten the attention 2004 champion Kurt Busch, the ex-RCR racers elder brother.
In the latest episode of the Rubbin is Racing with Spider and Large podcast, the HOF asserted that he would like the sport to stick with its traditions instead of making a special rule for his bother. He wants the sport to wait two more years as the rule book suggest before inducting the ex-JGR racer among the 70 currents names in the Hall.
I have a spot to vote now that I’m in the Hall of Fame and I haven’t seen any of the paperwork or what the next steps are. It’s a tough call. I think we stick with tradition. There are others that are deserving to be in the Hall of Fame. Obviously, my brother goes in, and he’s a top five. I mean, right now there’s only 70 of us in the Hall of Fame.
Kurt Busch said about his brother.
The veteran has no doubt his brother is first ballot Hall of Famer, considering he is a top-5 or top-10 all-time drivers the sports has ever seen. His 230 combined win in all three national series makes him the winningest racers in the history of the sport. The fact that Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch are at P1 in all time brother win list also make their case strong.
Maybe he’s top 10, don’t want to jump too far ahead. But he is the winningest driver in all of NASCAR’s series with 230-some-odd wins. We’re the winningest brothers with 97 Cup Series wins. Stats are there. The impact he made on the sport is there.
Kurt Busch added via Rubbin is Racing with Spider and Large podcast.
Another massive legacy the younger Busch has left behind in the sport is Kyle Busch Motorsports team. It has given the sport more than six elite drivers and many more over the years. That contribution along is enough to earn him an HOF nomination. Regardless the ex-23XI Racing driver feels the sport should not rush anything regarding the honor.
There’s almost two dozen racers currently that have come through the Kyle Busch Motorsports farm system. Those are things that will come over time. And I just don’t think we need to rush things.
Kurt Busch asserted.
M&M announces Kyle Busch tribute car at Bristol
The widow of the racing legend Samantha Busch has announced that Ty Gibbs will drive an M&M sponsored car that would feature the iconic paint scheme, that the veteran used to dominate the sport with JGR, in the upcoming race week at Bristol. It’s special moment for the whole Busch family and she see it as continuing the later racers legacy.

Going back without him will be heartbreaking. He should be there. But I’m so grateful to be able to tell you that those iconic M&M’S colors will be coming back to Bristol, one last time, on the 54 car. It’s a chance to honor him at a place he loved so much, surrounded by our NASCAR family and the fans who loved him too. I know Kyle would want us to be there, to keep showing up, keep racing, and keep carrying his legacy forward.
Samantha Busch wrote on X.
Bristol was always one of Kyle’s favorite tracks. He loved racing under the lights, found so much success there, and the iconic M&M’S car holds some of the best memories of his career and our life together.

For Ty Gibbs, who replaced the veteran when he moved to RCR, it is the right moment to pay the ultimate respect by winning the race. He might pull it off considering the No:54 team is in peak form after winning last week at Iowa and Toyota has the best car at the moment. It would be interesting to see how the race is going to playout for the youngster.
