There was a lot of drama leading up to Super Bowl LX between the Seahawks and the Patriots. New England icon Tom Brady said that he did not have any “dog in the fight.” Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed Brady’s statement in a recent appearance on WEEI.
Brady played two decades with the Patriots, won six rings and set numerous franchise records. Most alumni would be thrilled to see their former team competing in the Super Bowl. However, Brady did not seem to care too much.
On Friday’s segment on WEEI, Vrabel was asked how Brady’s statement had affected him back then.
Clearly Tom’s [Brady] gone out of his way to make it known that he’s trying to… he has a new job and new role and, you know, it is really what it is.

Vrabel and Brady won three rings together and he considers the former quarterback a friend. At the same time, Vrabel acknowledged that the 49-year-old’s current commitments are keeping him from publicly backing the Patriots.
Following his retirement in 2023, Brady’s bid to buy a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders was approved by the NFL ahead of the 2025 season. While the Raiders finished fourth in the AFC West, the Patriots won the conference title to qualify for Super Bowl LX. When asked how he felt about the Patriots playing the Seattle Seahawks in the final, Brady took the middle path.
I don’t have a dig in the fight in this one. May the best team win. And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime.

He [Brady] hired his offensive coordinator [Klint Kubiak]. I mean, that’s not why we lost the game. Like, we talked to a lot of people, and, you know, there’s a lot of film, and it’s not why we lost the game… I mean, I’m sure they talked.
Vrabel told WEEI
The Raiders hired Seattle’s OC Klint Kubiak as the new head coach. They also signed veteran Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins and drafted reigning Heisman Trophy winner and college champion Fernando Mendoza as their quarterbacks.
