Spire Motorsports youngster Carson Hocevar is one considered by the majority of the garage as the future superstar of the sport, but one key asterisk. The youngster is notorious for his over aggressive racing style and he has made a majority of the garage him enemies owing to questionable incident he has been part of in 2025 and now in 2026. One racer that came into the Cup with the same fiery sprint was Kurt Busch.

The 2004 champion was one of the most chaotic figures in his first few years in the sport, but he later learned to control that aggression and use it to his advantage. On his latest appearance on the Rubbin is Racing with Spider and Large podcast, Busch was asked about the No:77 Chevy driver. He highlighted how much he loves the racer as a driver with a lot of potential as well as unique character.

He’s a character, and I love him. And he’s an aggressive racer, and that team, Spire, you know, they’re trying to go from a B-level team to an A-level team. And that might be some of his comments on, you know, ‘Hocevar’s not a Hendrick. He’s not a Penske. He’s not a Gibbs. He’s not a 23XI.’ He’ll get there.

Kurt Busch said about Hocevar.

The veteran was then asked how he would’ve dealt with the youngster if he was still racing and was in his prime. The veterans like Richard Petty and Terry Labonte, grabbed young Kurt Busch by the neck, telling him to his face that he crossed the line. Those moments helped a young Kurt Busch to go from an aggressive racer to a Hall of Fame racer.

So those are the moments where if I have the experience and like what veterans did to me, you know, they kind of grabbed my neck or my shoulder and go, ‘Dude, you’re a little out of line. Why’d you do that?’ And you try to help coach him a little bit because that’s what Richard Petty did to me. That’s what Terry Labonte did to me. That’s my teammate, like Mark Martin back in the day.

Maybe Carson Hocevar needs the same help, maybe he needs mentor that understand the aggressive mentality and coach him how to take advantage of it without ruining others race. If the Chevy driver is not ready to listen to the free advice or ready to receive the free help, he might need be taught the hard way and that receptibility is on the shoulders of the veterans of the sport.

If it was coachable, like I think Hocevar is, you help them. You know, if it’s somebody that’s just way out there and they don’t want to listen and you’re offering help and they don’t want to take the free help, then you’re going to learn the hard way.

Kurt Busch asserted.

Busch had a reasonable answer, same as many of the veterans who responded to the comments.  He pointed out that Hocevar should refrain from shooting his own foot with such comments and asked him to embrace the superstardom he is getting as a NASCAR racer.

I mean, come on, kid. You know, you can’t shoot your own foot here. You’re making money in the sport. You’re becoming a superstar. They love you. Embrace it.

Kurt Busch said.

Both Hocevar as well as the NASCAR veteran are right about the comments. The sport needs a lot of work to do to get back to its prime and at the same time public criticism about it coming from insider’s won’t help as well. Everyone needs to work in unison to make the sport great again.
