LeBron James will enter his 24th season in the NBA in a new jersey. After not re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, James pulled off one of the biggest surprises in recent years by joining the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent.

The 76ers are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. After finishing at seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings, the 76ers made it to the playoffs by beating the Orlando Magic in the Play-In Tournament. After pulling off a memorable 3-1 comeback against the Boston Celtics in the first round, they were clean swept by the New York Knicks in the second round.

Since the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, the 76ers have had the best summer in recent years in terms of acquisitions. They acquired Jaylen Brown and James as they look to win their first championship since 1983.

With the schedule for the 2026-27 campaign out, the 76ers’ tickets are already reaching extraordinary prices. Reports say nine of the 10 most expensive NBA games next season feature James’ new team.

James may have been drafted into the league in 2003, but he continues to be the face of the NBA till date. He has carried the league on his shoulders for nearly two decades now.

When he was a free agent, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that the league was eagerly waiting for him to announce his decision on his next team. After his move to the 76ers was confirmed, the 76ers’ ticket prices saw a huge surge. His move to Philly saw the franchise headline opening night and Christmas Day as well.

When the schedule for the upcoming season was out, the biggest headline was the blockbuster clash between the 76ers and the defending champions, New York Knicks, at Madison Square Garden.

It was a fixture many expected on opening night, especially after James’ move to Philly. To add to the occasion, the Knicks will hang their championship banner and will have the ring ceremony as well. Meanwhile, the 76ers will be looking for some revenge after losing 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season.

While all Philly games have seen a surge in ticket prices, the Knicks-Sixers game at MSG is costing $2,605. James’ arrival has seen the 76ers become one of the biggest draws before the season has even started.

The matchup will feature several stars. The Knicks have reigning Finals MVP Jalen Brunson leading the charge alongside former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns. The Sixers have a very different squad than the last time they faced each other, and this matchup could be a conference finals preview.

The NBA is showing that LeBron James is still the main attraction

LeBron James may be at the back end of his career, but he showed everyone that he can still play at an elite level in his 23rd season. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in 60 appearances last season. The 41-year-old is entering a new phase in his career in Philly, and his two-year deal confirms he’ll play his 24th and 25th seasons with his new team.

Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright weighed in on James’ influence on the league.

To me what the league is telling us, is they still look at LeBron James as the main attraction of their sport. The Knicks are going to open their title defense and drop the banner, it could be against the team they beat in the finals. Nope we’re going to have LeBron in the building for that. On Christmas they put LeBron’s return to LA in the most viewed slot. So to me it’s noteworthy that that is what the league prioritized.

Opening night will see a packed MSG, and it is going to be one of the most memorable nights in Knicks’ franchise history. However, James and the 76ers will have the opportunity to spoil the party.
