LeBron James may have completed 23 years in the league and is heading into his 24th season, but that has taken nothing away from his box-office appeal in the NBA. He continues to be the biggest draw in the league to date.
Following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers after eight years, James decided to test free agency for the fourth time in his career. The whole offseason so far is a testament to his popularity and pull.
Despite some blockbuster moves in the offseason, the King’s future grabbed the headlines. In the end, James announced that he would be joining the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year deal on Friday.
It looks like the James effect has taken over Philly since the announcement. The ticket prices for the upcoming season have hiked like never before. Last season, the average purchase price for a 76ers game was $68. However, the cheapest ticket to the 76ers’ first preseason home game has been priced at $283.

The jump in ticket prices just shows what James brings to the table. While him joining the 76ers has turned them into strong contenders to come out of the Eastern Conference next year, his impact will be felt off the court as well.
When he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, he did not just impact the franchise but turned the city of Cleveland into the ‘Hollywood of the Midwest’. It looks like the city of Philly is going to have a similar impact as they now have one of the most recognized figures in professional sports.
The NBA can rest easy after LeBron James’ announcement
It had been over three weeks since James departed the Lakers and became a free agent. Until he announced his future team, the entire NBA world, including NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, was on its toes.

Silver revealed that even the league was eagerly waiting for an announcement as they were yet to lock the schedule for the 2026-27 campaign. James’ decision did not just affect the clubs he was linked to; it was affecting the league as a whole as networks waited on the scheduling.
The 41-year-old is still the biggest draw and has been the face of the league for nearly two decades. Wherever he goes, the media and spotlight follow. Till he decides to call time on his career, he will always be the major talking point in every season.
The 76ers boast a number of stars but none like James. Once the scheduling for the next season is confirmed, it is expected that the 76ers will be on national TV more than ever before. Hence, the 76ers will likely get several prime time opportunities next season.
LeBron James did not tell the 76ers he had chosen them
LeBron James was linked to a number of clubs over the last three weeks. Many expected him to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers and end his career in the franchise where it all began. The Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson even revealed that they are in the hunt for him. But to everyone’s surprise, the four-time champion chose the 76ers.
According to The Atlantic, no one knew about James’ future, not even the 76ers.
No one knew what LeBron was going to do up until Friday. They might have thought they knew from time to time, but it played out as a winding mystery.
