Anthony Edwards was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the number one pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Since entering the league, he has taken it by storm and many see him as the future face of the league.
While his game shows that he has what it takes to live up to those expectations, his off-court issues have been a hurdle. Over the past few weeks, he has been caught up in some never-ending child support battles. The four-time All-Star is no stranger to legal battles when it comes to his kids.
According to TMZ’s latest reports, the court has ordered Edwards to pay a significant amount to his ex, Alexandria Desroches. Considering he earns $4.8 million a month, he has to pay her child support of $14k and take out a life insurance policy worth around $2.6 million with Desroches named as the primary beneficiary.
Edwards and Desroches share a son named Amir, born in 2023. The Wolves guard admitted he has never met the child and is not interested in being part of his life.

While the child support money is negligible compared to his total earnings, Edwards is already paying child support for his other children. Last month, he had a big child support win when he was ordered to pay just $3,222 a month to Ayesha Howard, who is the mother of his one-year-old daughter. Edwards has not been a part of his daughter’s life either.
The young star tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Shannon Jackson, last month. He is alleged to have children with other women as well. Edwards’ situation has been messy over the last month, and he will be hoping to enter the upcoming campaign without any more legal battles.

Along with the $14k child support and $2.6 million life insurance policy, Edwards also has to cover Desroches’ legal fees, which total more than $21k. Unlike the court ruling in his child support battle with Howard, Edwards will have to pay a lot more to Desroches.
Following the court ruling, fans reacted to the news across social media.
Not meeting the child doesn't erase financial responsibility-why do people act like unwillingness equals irrelevance in these cases?

Anthony Edwards is having an incredible basketball career, but his off-court decisions are an absolute mess. He needs to grow up fast!

The court correctly enforced child support based directly on the massive income gap, ensuring the child's financial security regardless of personal family dynamics. ⚖️🏀

He didn’t want to be the face of the league for a reason

Fans called out Edwards for his poor off-court controversies. If he has to become the face of the league, such issues will always hold him back. While celebrities do deal with such issues from time to time, Edwards needs to take more responsibility for his actions heading forward.
Jamal Crawford on Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball joining forces
In one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, the Wolves traded for LaMelo Ball. The move sees two top-three picks of the 2020 draft join forces in Minnesota. Wolves head coach Chris Finch believes that Ball will help Edwards take the next step.

Former NBA star Jamal Crawford is optimistic about the new duo heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
You can tell their chemistry is something different… I can see either one going off and the other one be like ‘nah it’s all you, I’m gonna get you going’ like they have that respect for each other.

Anthony Edwards is coming off his best individual season in terms of scoring. He came third in the scoring charts as he averaged 28.8 points last season. Meanwhile, Ball is a talented player and a very good passer. The Wolves will be looking for a deep postseason run next year.
