Had the Charlotte Hornets not fumbled their second play-in game, LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and the rest would have proudly stated how they ended a 10-year postseason drought.

Even though they started slow, their over-the-season development led many to believe that the team was finally about to show proof of their progress.

The team was brimming with confidence, and unlike previous years, when they were termed perennial bottom-feeders, the Hornets looked like a team that was going to surprise a few Eastern Conference heavy-hitters.

They did, winning some impressive games against playoff teams, and even coming close to defeating the East-leading Detroit Pistons in a heated battle.

They did the same to the Miami Heat in the first play-in game, but that was as far as they could go. After that, everyone felt that the team needed some reinforcements.

But when they traded LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves a couple of days ago, fans were left baffled. Some agreed that the incoming Naz Reid would help them, and so would the plethora of draft picks.

However, the Hornets were not done. Per Shams Charania, they sent Miles Bridges and a couple of picks to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neal, and a future first-round pick.

This was the team possibly moving on from the duo whose off-court distractions brought the franchise into the limelight more than their combined production throughout their time in Charlotte.

Fans wonder what Charlotte Hornets are doing after Miles Bridges trade

Again, this Miles Bridges trade is one of balance. Neither team gets a major plus point, and both are adequately compensated. But what fans wondered was why the Charlotte Hornets decided to break up a core that was on the rise.

They felt that LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges have proved that they can play well together when healthy. Moreover, the chemistry between them was also one of the reasons for their surge. That is why fans left baffled reactions on social media, examples of which are below.

Bridges’ assault charges were what made the 28-year-old a subject of trolls. Maybe the team felt it was best to move on to a new era where the team could leave the distractions at the door and work towards what can make them better.

Hornets’ time after Michael Jordan era off to a good run, says analyst

When the great Michael Jordan owned the Charlotte Hornets, the team was entrenched in purgatory. His decisions with the team also cost him his friendship with Charles Barkley.

After he sold it to Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall for $3 billion, many felt the new owners were going to have a hard time changing the franchise’s fortunes. But it seems that three years in, they are better off.

I think when you combine this trade with the Miles Bridges trade that happened today,… Charlotte has come out looking awesome… Great work by the Hornets who continue to just kill it under their new regime.

Zach Lowe said on The Bill Simmons Podcast

The former ESPN analyst agreed with show host Bill Simmons that the LaMelo Ball trade made sense for the Hornets. Zach Lowe also agreed with Simmons that this proves the franchise was preparing the point guard to be traded when they forced him off the bench.

But when combined with the Bridges trade, Lowe believes the organization has clearly shown that they are doing way better than when Jordan made decisions. The team is better off without those two unreliable players and has stockpiled draft picks for the future.
