With the 2026 WNBA regular season a few games away from coming to a close, the race for several awards is heating up. Caitlin Clark has been on a tear over the last two months, which has led many to believe that she is a viable candidate to win MVP.
The Iowa native is currently averaging 22.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. That places her third in the scoring column, while she sits atop the assists column.
If not for perennial MVP A’ja Wilson‘s otherworldly domination on both ends of the floor, the Indiana Fever superstar would have been in the running to win the award.
She has had some outstanding scoring performances, while also looking to set her teammates up to add points. The latter effort has helped teammate Kelsey Mitchell have a career season.
However, some members of the media have been trying to prop Olivia Miles into the MVP race. They claim that the rookie is the reason the Minnesota Lynx is leading the league by a good margin.
Fans have argued that the 2024 runner-up is a good team regardless of her impact. But it seems others in the media have also begun to follow the line that the TCU alum is firmly in the race, with Caitlin Clark third.
Two players have been most often discussed when it comes to the MVP conversation this season: A’ja Wilson and Olivia Miles.

But has the race heated up since the All-Star break? And why has Caitlin Clark been on the outside looking in for much of 2026? https://t.co/7kJzCIFvj5
The latest was Annie Costabile, who noted in her article that Miles is second in the running behind Wilson. But also mentioned that Clark will ‘need a campaign to heat up around her case.’
Fans tear into journalist for biased opinion on Caitlin Clark
While fans generally appreciate an objective opinion, many took offense to this article. They felt that Annie Costabile was clearly biased towards Olivia Miles, as she wrote nothing but praise about the rookie.
On the other hand, they found that the journalist used a lot of words to find criticism in Caitlin Clark’s game, when she is clearly responsible for both uplifting the Fever and her teammates in their run up the ladder.
Fans alleged that this is another example of how the media is out with an agenda, creating narratives to ensure voters lean into their discourse and stop Clark from getting the MVP award. Check out examples of those reactions below.
Apologies for the length, but this needs to be said.

This article accidentally answers its own question.
Caitlin: 22.1 PPG, 8.3 APG, Fever 3rd.
Miles: 19.9 PPG, 6.1 APG, Lynx 1st.
For Miles, Annie Costabile gives us “highlights,” “makes life easier for her teammates” and… https://t.co/mR7mknXkfq
Your coverage is always biased. Not sure why you wouldn’t consider the fact that CC generates far more points per game. Or that OM went to the #1 team. Or that CC was coming back from an injury earlier in the season and still is ranked far higher in key categories.

Media, jealous WNBA players, and spiteful people don’t want Caitlin Clark to win MVP because they simply can’t accept that this woman single-handedly transformed the WNBA. Instead, they’re pushing Olivia Miles to tear Caitlin down, and that’s not right. Let the award be decided… https://t.co/qgb9cn6twf

Got it. Im guessing the remaining games will do nothing to change your vote, even if the Fever retain a higher seed than Aces. It was cast in May. Thanks for confirming you've lost your way

Miles numbers don’t compare. She’s out.

It is Aja and Caitlin.
Yeah, hard to get into MVP conversations when national media is worried about who the “birthday” is and asking if you should be benched for an unplayable rookie. pic.twitter.com/WjiM72aUwP https://t.co/8ElZRg22N8

"Anyone But Caitlin" right Annie?

Olivia Miles over CC is laughable.

To Annie Costabile’s credit, some of the criticisms she detailed about why Caitlin Clark is behind Olivia Miles in the MVP race are justified; fans felt that they have seen too many examples of how the media are collectively trying to find fault in the former’s game.
Former SportsCenter host bats for Caitlin Clark’s MVP race
While fans believe the media is actively campaigning against Caitlin Clark, someone who is no longer with mainstream media decided to bat for her.

Nobody touches the ball more than her; the offense goes through her… She creates, either with her assists or with her scoring: 40.5 points. That’s how much she impacts the game… It’s not most stats per player. It’s most valuable player.
Linda Cohn said on Yahoo Sports

The former SportsCenter host pointed out that there is no doubt that A’ja Wilson is in a class of her own. This season, her stats may have been monumental, but Clark’s importance to the Fever should be what is used to measure her impact.
