Of all the rivalries Caitlin Clark has unintentionally created ever since coming into the WNBA, the one with DiJonai Carrington has been something of a mind-bender owing to the sheer difference in skill between them.

The Indiana Fever superstar is an all-out scorer who was initially known for her ability to launch relentlessly from beyond the three-point line. Along with that, her passing remains one of the league’s best. She may not have the pizzazz of Chelsea Gray, but the Iowa native knows how to thread the needle when needed.

When it comes to the Chicago Sky, she is an otherworldly perimeter defender and has a decent three-point shot. In Clark’s rookie season, Carrington was credited with locking up the Hawkeyes alum.

However, times have changed, and so have their abilities. During their previous battle, it was about the Baylor guard and Sophie Cunningham, after the former clobbered her at the rim.

In their game earlier, it was back to Carrington vs. Clark, when the Sky star first complained to officials that the latter was flopping. That, and some steely looks, possibly lit the spark inside the Fever star, and since then, she has been relentless.

Caitlin Clark went on to score 37 points in this game, while also dishing out 10 assists. But what set the tone was when the 6’0″ guard launched a three-pointer over a trailing Carrington in the second quarter.

As they jogged back towards the Fever’s end, Carrington seemed to have intentionally bumped into Clark. The latter, though, brought back her infamous ‘wave-off,’ as if to signal that her opponent was not worthy of a confrontation, and carried on with her game.

DiJonai Carrington had circled this game after past incident with Sophie Cunningham

After this superlative performance, many felt that Caitlin Clark had essentially fed off the quiet confrontation with DiJonai Carrington. Many great players wait for their opponents to rile them up, and this was another example of that.

It so happens that the Chicago Sky star had circled this game on her social media. It was immediately after she received a lot of backlash for posting on Threads that ‘White Privilege’ was the reason she was ejected after fouling Sophie Cunningham.

Carrington was probably waiting for this rematch, which was probably her way of getting back at a team she has long had trouble with. However, circling this game came back to backfire.

At the time of writing this article, that post on X has more than 4.4 million views and over 7500 comments. Most of the latter are from fans reminding her what happened in this game.

From posts about how Caitlin Clark dropped 37 points, mostly while DiJonai Carrington guarded her, to other posts that show how the Fever destroyed her Chicago Sky.

Then there were other comments letting her know that her team is now officially eliminated from the playoffs and, in the process, is about to hand over one of the top prospects from next year’s draft to the Washington Wizards.

LeBron James shouts out Caitlin Clark’s sensational performance

After such a superlative performance, it would make sense for those planning their defensive schemes to counter Caitlin Clark to come up with alternate plans. That is how explosive she was, even leaving a certain LeBron James impressed.

Bang Bang.

That was all the NBA’s all-time leading scorer needed to sum up what he felt watching the Indiana Fever superstar explode for eight three-pointers in this impressive win against the Chicago Sky.

The King has long supported his fellow Nike athlete. But reacting to such performances shows how much he is invested in watching Caitlin Clark succeed in the WNBA.
