The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has witnessed Carson Hocevar making the headlines for all the good and bad reasons. His Talladega win, Met-Gala and non-NASCAR adventures were some of the main topics that earned him national spotlight. But recently things have been tough for the veteran, owing to a drop in form and that makes Kevin Harvick worry about the youngster.

In the latest episode of his podcast, the 2014 Cup Series champion there have been many drivers in the past that burst into the scene like Hocevar did and then got caught up with things outside NASCAR that they forget their primary objective, to win races. The Spire Motorsports driver is at the same crossroad at the moment and one decision he makes might build or ruin his legacy.

Here’s how it goes a lot of times when you see a young driver that gets a lot of attention, had some success, wins a race. Everybody’s like. ‘Hey, you should do this. Hey, you should do that.’ Got a TikTok girlfriend. All these things that go along with all that, and then they forget that they need to drive the freaking race car.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

The ex-Stewart Haas Racing driver backed his argument by recalling the beef Carson Hocevar had with rookie Connor Zilisch last Sunday. He made a couple pf wrong moves, instead of just focusing on racing and that made Kevin Harvick realize the youngster might too be involved right now in things outside the sport.

And you know, it’s like the deal right here with Connor Zilisch, you know, kind of zigging and zagging, doing whatever he was trying to do, instead of just racing. You’ve got to quit worrying about all the other stuff… The guy can drive the crap out of the race car, and all the other stuff is really cool; leaning into the sponsors and the fans and all these things, but no one cares.

Kevin Harvick added via Happy Hour Podcast.

Further talking about the point, the ex-champion pointed out that all the buzz around the drivers would end once he stops delivering results on the track and he would get forgotten. The veteran insisted that he wasn’t being a jerk with the comments, but was just explaining the bitter truth about the sport entertainment industry.

No one cares if your car is not fast. It does not matter if you don’t have the results. They will forget about you in weeks, and that to me is over the last few weeks. They have kind of forgotten about what they need to be focused on. And that’s the way it looks on the racetrack. I don’t mean to be a jerk, but sometimes I can be.

Kevin Harvick asserted.

Kevin Harvick urged Carson Hocevar to take a social media hiatus

One key advice the Fox Sports broadcaster has for Hocevar is to take a break from social media and stop being too involved in the non-NASCAR adventures for the remaining 11 race weeks of the 2026 season. He needs to focus on racing and try to finish the year on a high note.

And to be honest, we need to lock down. If you’re Carson Hocevar, you need to turn all the rest of that stuff off. Turn your social media off. Turn all the rest of the nonsense off. Don’t worry about what you say in an interview. It all seems so calculated.

Kevin Harvick said.

The comments from the ex-racer are on point and is something Hocevar needs to take into account, while preparing for the upcoming races. It would be interesting to see how the rest of 2026 is going to playout for the star driver.
