Team Penske Racing Joey Logano made a career for himself in NASCAR by being one of the most aggressive drivers of his generation and that helped him to produce clutch runs good enough to win three championships in the playoff’s era. Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar is similar in sense that he has re-defined racing aggression in his generation.
The former champion talked about how the racing has evolved over the years with the likes of Hocevar in the picture and admitted that the moves he was being criticized for in the past has now become normal. He highlighted how three wide and four wide racing is no longer seen as crazy, showing how aggression has become more rewarding.
The world has changed quite a bit, actually, because the things that I did that made Harvick mad, or Tony Stewart, or most of these guys that I got in run-ins with, those things back then were pushing it. Like it was a big deal, ‘Oh God, they’re three wide.’ Now it’s like three wide’s every restart. Four wide would be something that’s a little surprising, but even that’s not that crazy anymore.
Joey Logano said about Hocevar.
The new normal is something the past generation saw as taboo. Joey Logano further pointed out that Carson Hocevar and his fellow young drivers has gotten the sport to another level. Nowadays drivers cause chaos for no real end goal, unlike in the past risk that were taken were often calculated moves for wins.
So, the things that used to make some drivers mad when I was first starting 20 years ago is normal now. This is a whole ‘nother level. It just doesn’t add up. If you’re trying to win a race, you’re making a move, you’re doing something to try to do it, like, okay. Or you’re just doing it to do it, then it’s different.
Joey Logano added via Racin’ with the Boys podcast.
Later in the same conversation Logano asserted that Hocevar and some of his young counterparts are leaning too much into making questionable moves on the track. The veteran insisted that though he used to do it, he never pushed the envelope this far as some of the racers of the current generation did.
And there’s been some moves that are probably questionable. And granted, like I said, I’ve been that side of it before. You know, not this far, but there. And yeah, it’s just, I don’t know what to tell you. You know, you got to compete against each other every week. It’s what it is.
Joey Logano asserted.
Joey Logano called Carson Hocevar dumb for New Hampshire spin
One of the most hilarious moments from last Sunday’s race at New Hampshire was Hocevar spin in the formation laps. He slammed into the wall after losing his balance with he wet weather tires and Joey Logano couldn’t pass on the opportunity to mock the No:77 Chevy driver. He joked that Hocevar was being dumb and an idiot in the moment.

All of it was just, I was watching the guy spin out. It’s like someone making a dumb move on the highway. Like, ‘Look at this idiot, where’s he going,’ you know? Like, and that’s kind of what it was. And it was, honestly, it was kind of funny.
Joey Logano said.
The comments from the Team Penske Racing driver seem to be on point and shows how being experienced has given him the wisdom that being aggressive all the time is pointless. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers in the coming years.
