Deion Sanders found out whether he has to testify in his son Shilo Sanders‘ looming bankruptcy trial. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach has to testify, just not in person.
According to Christopher Kamrani of The Athletic, Deion Sanders can attend the trial virtually. Judge Michael E. Romero made the decision to accommodate Deion Sanders’ packed schedule with Colorado. The trial is scheduled to start on Monday, August 31, at 1:30 p.m. MT.
Sanders’ attorney Harvey Steinberg told Kamrani that his client’s testimony is irrelevant in this case. Steinberg tried his best to push Sanders’ testimony to September 4 or beyond, given his schedule, but the court eventually settled on hearing from the NFL icon virtually.
What is Shilo Sanders’ bankruptcy trial about?
Shilo Sanders, son of Deion Sanders and brother of Cleveland browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, filed for bankruptcy in October 2023, hoping to discharge more than $11 million in debt. According to the NYT, he owed almost all of it to a former security guard at his school in Dallas.

Back in 2015, when Shilo was still a school student, the security guard accused Shilo of assault and physical harm. He sued Shilo Sanders in 2016 and won an $11.89 million civil default judgment against the former Colorado safety in 2022. However, Shilo Sanders did not attend the trial.
Shilo later stated that his action was self-defense against the security guard. Per The NYT, Deion Sanders is relevant in the case because he instructed the said security guard to confiscate Shilo Sanders’ cell phone if he tried to speak with his mother. The altercation happened when the security guard attempted to take Shilo’s phone.
A year after the incident, Deion Sanders was questioned about his involvement. He did not provide much intel back then. It will be interesting to hear what Sanders says on Monday.
Super Bowl champion believes Deion Sanders is at his “tipping point’ seeing the treatment of Shedeur Sanders
Shilo Sanders signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. But was cut after committing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the preseason.
Shilo’s brother Shedeur was a top quarterback prospect coming out of college. He led the NCAA with pass completion percentage in his final season. Despite his pedigree, Shedeur fell to the Browns in the fifth round, one of the places every rookie quarterback dreads.
Since then, Shedeur Sanders has faced an uphill battle. Experts pointed fingers at Deion Sanders for Shedeur’s “manufactured” treatment. Shedeur’s position on the Browns did not improve even after the offseason changes. He lost the starter’s job to Deshaun Watson.
We all know what’s transpiring with Shedeur, although he’s playing extremely well.

Judging by Coach Prime’s words, he’s clearly unhappy with Shedeur losing the QB battle to Watson. Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel presented a worrying trend he observed in Deion Sanders.
You can see the unhappiness [Deion Sanders] feels for his son. It’s like, ‘Why is this continuing to happen to my son?’ Damn. And they don’t want Coach Prime to start talking crazy. They don’t want Coach Prime to get out of character. And if you know Coach Prime, he don’t care, especially when it comes to his baby boy, and I feel like this is getting to the tipping point for Coach Prime. He’s like right on the edge.

Per Cleveland media, Watson performed better at the camp than Sanders. He picked up new head coach Todd Monken’s playbook faster and earned the starter’s job regardless of his outburst in the media.
Watson only has one year remaining on his contract. However, if he fails to string together a few wins, Monken would not hesitate to bench him for Shedeur Sanders.
