Joe Burrow is an elite NFL quarterback. That said, unlike his peers, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson, the Cincinnati Bengals signal caller has yet to win the league’s best player award.

Micah Parsons still picked Burrow over the others as the greatest quarterback he has ever played against.

In a recent segment of Bleacher Report’s The Edge Podcast, Parsons pushed back on the narrative that Burrow reaps the benefit of playing with top receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

I don’t think there’s a better QB in the league than Joe Burrow… This is one of the greatest QB levels of play that I have probably played in my life. When he’s on, I don’t think there’s a better QB in the league than Joe Burrow.

Micah Parsons said

Parsons has faced several great quarterbacks since entering the NFL. However, Burrow is the only quarterback to have registered a passer rating over 110 against a Parsons-led defense. That happened in the 2024 Week 14 game, when Parsons was still part of the Dallas Cowboys.

Burrow completed 33 of 44 passes for 369 yards (8.4 yards per throw), threw 3 touchdowns and one interception. Parsons had zero tackles completed and zero sacks in the game. The Bengals won 27-20.

That year, Burrow led the league in pass completions (460), pass attempts (652), yards (4918), and touchdowns (43). Burrow earned his third Pro Bowl selection and was named the Comeback Player of the Year for the second time.

Parsons’ only game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs saw the three-time Super Bowl champion record a 71.9 passer rating. Josh Allen posted an 89.3 passer rating when Parsons last faced the Buffalo Bills star.

Top draft analyst believes Joe Burrow should leave the sinking Bengals ship

The Bengals last played in the Super Bowl in the 2021-22 season, and the team last appeared in the playoffs in the 2022-23 season. Since then, the team from Cincinnati has missed postseason football for three straight seasons.

The 2024 Bengals offense was among the best in recent history. The defense, on the other hand, ranked near the bottom in every metric possible. Last year, Burrow suffered a turf toe injury and underwent surgery. He missed three months of football and the Bengals struggled to win games without him.

Speculations circulated on social media that Burrow could request a trade in the offseason. Even though the 29-year-old opted to stay, NFL draft expert Todd McShay of The Ringer believes he would be better off playing for a different team.

He’s just different. But this thing has eroded him, like physically, emotionally, I don’t think confidence-wise, but I do wonder when that starts to set in. I kind of want to see him go somewhere else if this year isn’t, ‘Hey, we’re back in the playoffs, things are rolling.’ I want to see Joe Burrow get an opportunity somewhere else like [Matthew] Stafford—who’s next up that we’re going to talk about?

Todd McShay said on The Bill Simmons podcast.

Matthew Stafford played 12 years in Detroit and only managed four winning seasons. In 2021, the Los Angeles Rams traded for him, and in his debut campaign, Stafford won the Super Bowl by defeating Burrow and the Bengals.

Head coach Zac Taylor somehow kept his job despite delivering just 6 wins in 2025. Taylor and general manager Duke Tobin made additions to the defense.

The Bengals traded for All-Pro nose tackle Dexter Lawrence, signed Super Bowl-winning edge Boye Mafe to a three-year, $60 million deal, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen to a two-year contract, and signed safety Bryan Cook to a three-year contract worth more than $40 million.

The Bengals also signed both Chase and Higgins to longer contracts. Burrow believes the current Bengals roster is the best he has been part of since entering the NFL.
