Last Saturday’s race at Daytona International Speedway, the 2026 regular season finale, witnessed some wild moments. One of the most controversial moments of the race was the las late Carson Hocevar wreck that took out Legacy Motor Club veteran Erik Jones.
The TRD driver addressed last week’s chaos ahead of the Darlington race and revealed that he chatted with the Spire Motorsports youngster about the drama. He asserted that the No:77 Chevy drivers didn’t wreck him intentionally and it was frustrating mistake.
Yeah, I sent him a message, and we chatted back and forth. And he was sorry and felt bad about it. Obviously, at the end of the day, he just made a mistake and wrecked. It’s not like he intentionally went out to take us out of the race. You know, he just lost control. So, yeah, is it frustrating? For sure, for me.
Erik Jones said about Daytona Chaos.
Furthermore, the Erik Jones highlighted the how Carson Hocevar and other drivers in the garage are judged over aggressive incidents on the track. He pointed out that drivers with a poor reputation regarding aggression such as the Chevy racer often doesn’t get pass after wrecks unlike clean racers.
You know, but, I mean, at the end of the day, everybody gets held to a different standard. I think if it’s somebody that never causes trouble and they wreck and cause a wreck, there’s probably no talk or not much talk. But your reputation does precede you at some points. And, unfortunately, for him right now, that’s the situation.

Carson Hocevar doesn’t regret the Erik Jones Wreck
While Hocevar admitted his mistakes in the incident, he doesn’t regret the move he made with just six laps left in the race. He pointed out that one main reason for the incident was how the new rule package offers less downforce causing him to get loose.

Everybody I talked to said there’s a lot less downforce on the nose and a lot more lift behind people. Preece even went on podcasts saying it almost happened to him. I’d never gotten loose at a superspeedway in this car before, normally you’re always super stuck. My spotter was laughing, saying it looked like I blew a tire.
Carson Hocevar said.
Furthermore, the veteran asserted that the cars have become super aero-sensitive with the changes and if he gets a second chance, he would have made correction before taking risks. But that doesn’t mean he regrets that move that ended Jones’ day.
These cars are super aero-sensitive, and once it got loose, it was over. I moved about 30 feet earlier in the corner, but I wasn’t all the way in the banking to put load on the front. I’d do it the same way all over again, knowing what I knew then, but I’d be a little more aware of it now.
Carson Hocevar added.
The comments from the young racer are on point and show he won’t stop being aggressive targeting wins in the remaining ten races of the season. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers in the coming days.
