The Detroit Tigers announced a massive change on Monday. The American League Central side revealed changing its stadium name to Fifth Third Park starting in the 2027 season. This development did not sit well with fans on social media.
The Tigers have called Comerica Park as their home since 2000. The ballpark has had several alternate identities, with some fans simply calling it Comerica.
Now they will have to get used to a new name. In a news conference on Monday afternoon, the team announced formally changing their stadium name from Comerica Park to Fifth Third Park. This change will be reflected starting next season.

As per reports from MLB.com, this name change was expected for a long time. Last year, Fifth Third Bank completed a merger with Comerica Bank.
The Fifth Third name is also familiar in the Tigers organization. The Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Tigers, have played in the Fifth Third Field since 2002. Their High-A affiliate has also played in the Fifth Third ballpark for over 20 years now.

Tigers: Fifth Third Park
Mud Hens: Fifth Third Field
Seawolves: UPMC Park
White Caps: LMCU Ballpark (formerly Fifth Third BallPark)
Flying Tigers: Publix Field at Joker Merchant Stadium
The changing of signs around the ballpark will start taking place during the offseason. The team is scheduled to open its 2027 season at home against fellow AL Central rivals, the Chicago White Sox.
Social media reacts to Tigers’ new ballpark name
The Detroit Tigers’ ballpark will have a new identity starting next season. Comerica Park will be renamed Fifth Third Park following the announcement on Monday.

Fans on social media did not like this. Many users on X voiced their disappointment with this name change and called out the team for it. One user wrote, “sounds like a minor league ballpark,” while making their feelings known.

That’s so bad like TERRIBLY BAD. I thought going from Minute Maid Park to Daikin Park was terrible we got out good compared to this monstrosity.

Congratulations. The Tigers now have the worst named field in sports. I'm embarrassed. It'll always be Comerica to me.

Makes sense, as the tigers usually finish between fifth and third https://t.co/TBDPUZF0BM

Only 9 teams in MLB have played more games at their ballpark without a name change than the Tigers at Comerica Park. They are the Baltimore Orioles (Oriole Park at Camden Yards), Boston Red Sox (Fenway Park), Chicago Cubs (Wrigley Field), Colorado Rockies (Coors Field), Kansas City Royals (Kauffman Stadium), Los Angeles Angels (Angel Stadium), Los Angeles Dodgers (Dodger Stadium), Pittsburgh Pirates (PNC Park), and Tampa Bay Rays (Tropicana Field).
Tigers to miss playoffs this year after back-to-back ALDS exits
There will be no postseason baseball at Comerica Park this year. After back-to-back American League Division Series (ALDS) exits, the Detroit Tigers will miss the playoffs this season.

The 2024 season saw the Tigers return to the MLB postseason for the first time since 2014. After knocking out the Houston Astros in the AL Wild Card Series, they lost 3-2 in the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians.
Last year, the Guardians then scripted a huge comeback and snatched the division title from the gasps of the Tigers. The Detroit-based side, however, had their revenge in the Wild Card Series against them.
Then they lost against the Seattle Mariners. Despite a strong showing from Tarik Skubal in Game 5, the Tigers got walked off in the 15th inning.
This year, they did not have a strong start. At the start of June, they had a 22-38 record. Despite some wins later on, they were never able to get back properly in the hunt.
In August, they ended up losing Skubal. They traded away their ace pitcher to the Los Angeles Dodgers instead of losing him for free. An 8-1 loss against the White Sox this past Sunday officially eliminated them from the playoff race.

Their remaining fixtures are against the Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. With a win on Monday, they have a 74-83 record. While they cannot finish with a winning record, they will at least hope to end the season on a high with some wins.
