The New York Yankees may have to finish the 2026 season without Aaron Judge. On Monday, an MLB insider shared a grim take regarding the future of the Yankees captain following his right calf strain.
Last week, the American League East side suffered another blow regarding Judge. In the game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, the reigning AL MVP was forced to leave the game early.
After striking out in his first two at-bats, he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 6th inning. While speaking to the reporters after the game, the outfielder pointed out feeling some tightness in his lower body.
He then underwent an MRI scan on Thursday. This revealed that he had suffered a calf strain in his right leg. Though the team did not disclose the Grade of the strain, they placed him on the 10-day injured list.

This development took place just after he had returned from a long spell on the sidelines. In June, Judge was diagnosed with a right rib fracture and placed on the 60-day injured list. After missing over 3 months of action, he returned earlier this month.
This return did not last long. After just 7 games back, the Yankees superstar found himself out of action again. With the 2026 season now in the final week of regular action, there are some major concerns regarding his future.
MLB insider Joel Sherman believes there is a “strong possibility” that he will not play again. While the update from the insider is a bit vague, it could mean that Judge’s 2026 season is over.
There’s some strong possibility he doesn’t play anymore.

In the first game without Judge after this latest setback, the Yankees won 9-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, they ended up losing the series with defeats on Saturday and Sunday.
Yankees broadcaster urges to shut down Aaron Judge instead of rushing through injury
Just when it looked like things were getting back to best for the New York Yankees, they lost Aaron Judge once again. One of their broadcasters has now urged the team to shut down their captain instead of rushing through his calf strain injury.

With him on the 10-day injured list, he is eligible to be lifted off this coming Sunday. The major point is that the Yankees have not disclosed the grade of his strain.
While reacting to Judge’s situation on the ESPN radio show, broadcaster Michael Kay said he would shut down the 8-time All-Star instead of making him play in October.
If there’s a chance that Aaron Judge could rupture his Achilles by trying to play through this injury, I’m sitting him down because if he ruptures his Achilles … it’s a year of rehab. I’m sorry. I’m not losing Aaron Judge for 2027 by having him play through an injury that could cause an even greater injury.

Judge did reveal that his strain is in the soleus muscle. If compromised, it could lead to an Achilles tear, which could see him out for an even longer period of time.
SHUT AARON JUDGE DOWN FOR THE POSTSEASON TOO.

The soleus is the particular muscle in the calf that, when compromised, causes the achilles to tear.
Tyrese Haliburton, Dame Lilard, and Aaron Rodgers were all dealing with soleus issues before tearing their achilles.

If the playoffs started today, the Yankees would face the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card Series. Whether the Yankees take a risk and play him is something only time will tell.
