Who is the best player in the world right now between Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz? Roger Federer picked Sinner, but he also believes that if Alcaraz plays to his full potential, then he would be considered the best.

Before injuring his knee, Sinner defended his title at Wimbledon. But before that, he took home five back-to-back titles in the Masters 1000s, winning in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. His home-country victory made him the second man in history, after Novak Djokovic, to complete the Career Golden Masters.

Alcaraz, after beating Djokovic in the Australian Open final and Arthur Fils in the Qatar Open final, lost to Sinner in Monte Carlo before injuring his wrist in Barcelona.

I mean, I’d say maybe it’s even Sinner, just because of the sheer dominance that he had in Masters 1000s. He played great until his injury. Now, does the injury matter with his level of play? I think when he does show up, he’s been the best. That’s why also his ranking is right there. Now, we also know that when Carlos is at his absolute best that maybe he is – I might argue that he is the best player out there, and I think he knows that as well.

Roger Federer told TNT Sports

Federer, who co-created the Laver Cup, is in London for the ninth edition of the tournament. And so are Alcaraz and Zverev, as they will be representing Team Europe led by captain Yannick Noah. Sinner has never competed in the tournament.

And Sascha is now finally where we all hoped he would be one day as being a Grand Slam champion, and now you could argue that maybe right now, if there was a matchup, that maybe he would be the guy, because also Carlos is coming back from injury, and Sascha. So I think it’s a debate, but I think just from the year that Sinner has had, I’d say he’s super, super tough, yeah.

Roger Federer added

Zverev didn’t face either Alcaraz or Sinner on his way to his wins at the French Open and the US Open. He beat Flavio Cobolli and Ben Shelton in the two finals, respectively, and was denied the Channel Slam by Sinner.

The German doesn’t consider himself the best player in the world because he didn’t face either Sinner or Alcaraz. He lost to Sinner for the 10th consecutive time in this year’s Madrid Open final.

Jannik Sinner withdraws from the China Open

Jannik Sinner‘s name was on the entry list for the China Open, but there were a lot of speculations about his withdrawal. Then on September 25, the five-time Grand Slam champion himself took to X and confirmed that he won’t be competing in the ATP 500 event in Beijing.

My knee is not quite where I want it to be, and I am not quite ready to compete yet, but I will do everything possible to be on court as soon as I can.

Sinner is the reigning champion in Beijing, so he will lose 500 ranking points. He reclaimed his No.1 ranking after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in Monte Carlo. At present, he is 1,810 points ahead of Alexander Zverev in the rankings.

Zverev will compete in Beijing after the Laver Cup. He will be chasing his third title of the season. So far this season, he has played four finals.

After the China Open, players will be gearing up for the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters. If Sinner skips, Zverev will have a great opportunity to reduce the ranking gap by winning the tournament.
