The Chicago Cubs were eliminated from the postseason on Wednesday following a 4-1 loss in Game 2 against the San Diego Padres. Following their exit, Pete Crow-Armstrong found himself getting trolled by fans on social media as he went hitless in the Wild Card Series.
The Cubs came into this series on the back of an MVP-calibre season from Crow-Armstrong. He led the offense of the Cubs and smashed home runs all around the corner.
Last Thursday, he became the 7th member of the historic 40-40 club following his 40th steal of the season. He then wrapped up the regular season with 45 home runs, tied for the most along with Kyle Schwarber, and 41 steals.
With him being a 40-40 member, there were high expectations on his shoulders in the Wild Card Series against the Padres. This was also a rematch from last year, when the Cubs beat the NL West side 2-1 to reach the National League Division Series (NLDS).
The Chicago-based side also had a 5-1 record against their opponents in the regular season. Before their game on Tuesday, the last meeting between these two sides saw the Padres get crushed 23-3 in July.
Since then, a lot of things had changed, and the Padres had been on a heater. They won Game 1 with an 8-0 scoreline thanks to a dominant performance from the mound by Michael King and home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.
The Cubs had just 3 hits in that game, with Crow-Armstrong going 0-for-3 with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. There was no improvement on Wednesday as their bats went cold once again.
In Game 2, PCA went 0-for-4 with 1 strikeout, going 0-for-7 in the 2 games.

The only run the Cubs had in the entire series was a single from Nico Hoerner in the 4th inning. The Padres emerged as 4-1 winners and completed the sweep to knock out their opponents from the postseason.

Another top name that failed to get going was Alex Bregman. Along with PCA, he had formed a formidable partnership and was expected to be a huge force in the postseason. He went 0-for-8 while striking out 4 times as well.
Social media reacts to Pete Crow-Armstrong going hitless in Wild Card Series loss
Just like that, the promising season for the Chicago Cubs has come to an end. Despite the brilliance of Pete Crow-Armstrong in the regular season, the NL Central side will not get a rematch with the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS as they were eliminated from the Wild Card Series.

Fans on social media went wild following their elimination. Many trolled Crow-Armstrong for his showing, with one calling him “Fake MVP” on X.

0 clutch when the lights are brightest.
His performances in the regular season made him a frontrunner for the National League MVP Award. With Shohei Ohtani having a down year and battling injuries, the Cubs star is considered to be the favorite to win this huge honor.
Pete Crow-Armstrong admits being disappointed with his performance after Wild Card exit
Pete Crow-Armstrong was unable to make a huge impact in the postseason. He went hitless in the two games of the Wild Card Series as the Cubs were knocked out. After the game, the 24-year-old admitted being disappointed with his performance in this series.

After striking out 3 times in Game 1, he was called out on strikes in his first at-bat in Game 2. He even wasted an ABS challenge after just 5 pitches. He then popped out in the 3rd, lined out in the 5th, and flew out in the 7th inning.
I’m feeling pretty disappointed in myself. You could look at the scoreboard, you could look at the stat sheet, wherever you get your numbers from, and it is clear to see that I didn’t contribute.
Pete Crow-Armstrong said as per Marquee Sports Network
"I think this team showed a lot of heart and a lot of fight … but I would say, to start, I show up. I show up when it matters, in these games. I think that would help us immediately."

This season was also special for the Cubs as it marked the 10th anniversary of their incredible World Series triumph against the Cleveland Indians in 2016. Now they will watch from the sidelines as the Padres face the Brewers in the NLDS.
