Pete Crow-Armstrong has finally done it. On Thursday, the Chicago Cubs star stole his 40th base of the season and joined the 40-40 club. He is now the 7th member to join this exclusive club.

The 2026 season has been a historic one for the outfielder. He has hit for the cycle, stolen bases, and smashed home runs all around the ballparks.

With 45 home runs to his name, he needed one more steal to become the 7th player in history to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a regular season. The historic moment took place in the first inning of their game against the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon.

Like he has done all season, PCA swiftly took off from first base before the pitcher could throw his pitch. By the time the ball was thrown back to second base, the Cubs star had already slid in and stolen the base.

He joins Shohei Ohtani (2024), Ronald Acuna Jr. (2023), Alfonso Soriano (2006), Alex Rodriguez (1998), Barry Bonds (1996), and Jose Canseco (1988) to become a member of the 40-40 club.

Wrigley Field erupted with joy after he stole second base. While speaking with reporters about his celebration, he said he was left emotional by the response from Cubs supporters.

I was pretty emotional, I’m not going lie. … I got a little thrown off when I ran out into the outfield today.

With this achievement, he has also strengthened his case for the National League MVP Award. Out of the 6 previous 40-40 players, 3 have won the MVP Award.

One of them is Ohtani, whom PCA is going up against. The Japanese international was a unanimous winner in 2024 when he founded the 50-50 club. With him having a down year due to some injuries, the Cubs star has become a heavy favorite to win the MVP honor.

The other two players to win the MVP Award after a 40-40 season were Acuna Jr. and Canseco. Like Ohtani, both of them were unanimous winners as well.

Pete Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs also secured a postseason berth on his historic day

On 24th September, Pete Crow-Armstrong cemented his name in an exclusive list by becoming the 7th member of the 40-40 club in MLB. There was more celebration in Chicago later as the Cubs also secured a postseason berth.

The NL Central side picked up a 2-1 win against the Marlins. This victory officially confirmed their place in the NL Wild Card series and saw them reach the postseason in back-to-back seasons.

This is the first time since 2015-18 that the Cubs have secured playoffs in successive seasons. The last time this happened, it saw them reach the National League Championship Series (NLCS) in 3 straight seasons and clinch a World Series title in 2016. 10 years later, the Cubs will be hoping for something similar.

If the playoffs started today, they would be up for a rematch against the San Diego Padres in the NL Wild Card Series. Last year, the Cubs took down the NL West side 2-1 in the best-of-three Series. Then they took on the Brewers in the National League Division Series (NLDS).

The Brewers eventually edged them out 3-2 in the best-of-five series to book a place in the NLCS. With PCA leading the charge, the Cubs will be hoping to do one better and get another shot at their division rivals. For now, they have three games remaining in the regular season against the Boston Red Sox.
