One of the biggest controversies in the NASCAR community happened last week when 23XI Racing’s Corey Heim was jumped by rival team owner and crew after the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 Late Model race at Martinsville. The fight happened after the TRD drivers on-track clash with Treyten Lapcevich.

NASCAR hammered down on the CBR team owner and the crew by suspending them indefinitely as well as placing everyone in a one-year probation. Now adding insult to injury, Lapcevich confirmed that he is set to exit the team after this weekend race at Newport Speedway. He will race this weekend with the support from Rette Jones Racing camp, with his family being part of the crew.

This weekend at Newport Speedway will be my final race with Chad Bryant Racing and the No. 77 Late Model Stock. With the Late Model Stock Drivers Championship still within reach and commitments to our partners, it was important for us to be at Newport this weekend. We’ll be running the No. 77 with support from the Rette Jones Racing camp, and my family crewing the car.

Treyten Lapcevich announced on X.

Further sharing his thoughts on the exit, Lapcevich highlighted the key role Chad Bryant has played in his career in the last two year he spent with the team. He has become a better racer and won CARS Tour event at North Wilkesboro as well as the South Carolina 400.

I want to thank Chad for making me part of his family. Over the last 2 years we’ve become really close, and Chad has always gone out of his way to make me a better racer. Lots of 4am nights, a CARS Tour win at North Wilkesboro, a South Carolina 400 victory, and many great finishes – Chad has pushed me to be better every step of the way.

Treyten Lapcevich added.

The youngster highlighted how he is determined to fight for the 2026 Late Model championship and wants to continue the journey with a strong run at Newport. He hasn’t yet announced his new team for the reminder of the season.

For now, my focus is on Newport and doing everything we can to put together a strong weekend. Updates to come regarding the remainder of my 2026 Late Model Stock season. I want to thank Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship for their continued support.

Treyten Lapcevich asserted.

What happened with Corey after the race was wrong, and it should not have happened. While I was not involved in the incident, I want to be clear that I do not condone any action that took place.

Treyten Lapcevich via a statement.

The decision to split with the team is wise from Lapcevich, considering distancing himself from the drama will be key to his long-term success as well as potential future sponsorship deals. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the common days.
