Dak Prescott threw a touchdown pass to George Pickens with just over five minutes left in Thursday Night’s fixture at AT&T Stadium. This made Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones jump for joy in the VIP box.

However, the game only ends when the referee blows the final whistle. Dallas still had enough time and timeouts available to snatch a victory. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers punted on the next drive, which lasted just shy of two minutes.

Prescott ran a 6-play drive, gaining around 72 yards. On the seventh play, his pass ricocheted off tight end Jake Ferguson’s facemask and looped up in the air.

Bucs linebacker Alex Anzalone snagged the loose ball before it hit the turf. Prescott’s interception killed the Cowboys’ momentum. A disappointed Jerry Jones took his glasses off and stared into oblivion in disbelief.

The Bucs, led by rookie Jalon Daniels, in Baker Mayfield’s absence, upset the Cowboys. The Bucs won their first game of the new campaign 24-16, whereas Dallas is 2-3.

Prescott completed 24 of 42 passes for 316 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Pickens caught 9 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Running back Javonte Williams ran 12 times for 45 yards and 1 touchdown. Ryan Flournoy caught 3 passes for 90 yards to finish the game.

Jerry Jones makes his stance clear about the Cowboys’ defense

Jerry Jones receives a lot of flak for not investing enough in the team. However, he went all out this year. To fix the defense in particular, Jones brought in Christian Parker from the Eagles and drafted highly regarded rookies, Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, and Jaishawn Barham.

Dallas had already profited from the Micah Parsons deal. With the capital they received, Jones brought in Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, and Rashan Gary to bolster the defensive line.

The Cowboys were chasing shadows in their own backyard against a team that started the season with four straight defeats. The Cowboys struggled to retrieve the ball, stop the runs, break down passes, and sack the quarterback (just one by Lawrence).

The Bucs had the ball nearly 19 minutes more than the Cowboys. Bucs running back Bucky Irving had 21 carries for 165 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka scored a touchdown on a jet sweep. Cowboys DB Daron Bland, who holds the record for most interceptions in one season (5 INTs), failed to haul in a wayward pass from Daniels right after Pickens’ touchdown. Bland also squandered a great chance to score a pick-6.

After TNF, the Cowboys defense ranks 30th in point allowed (2.6) per drive, 32nd in forced turnovers (4.0%), 31st in third downs, 28th in sacks (3.4%), and last in yards allowed per play (6.4 yards), according to Pro Football Network.

New signing Joey Porter Jr. didn’t play due to illness. Porter looked solid last Sunday against the Texans. Jerry Jones teased that he could make more additions to the defense before the trade deadline.

Dallas’s lack of pass rush is killing their games. Analysts have urged them to trade for All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack from the 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers. The Defensive Player of the Year has already recorded 3 sacks, 14 tackles, and 5 TFLs. Williams, Gary, and Clark have combined for zero sacks so far.

Next week, the Cowboys travel to Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys are 2-10 in Green Bay.
