On Sunday night, the Milwaukee Brewers landed the first punch in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning Game 1, 2-1. Brice Turang, who hit a huge opposite-field game-tying home run against Tarik Skubal, later received a special gift from David Ortiz.

The matchup between teams with the two best records in the National League was tight as expected. The Dodgers had 2-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal on the mound. The Brewers, meanwhile, led off with their ace pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.

It was the Dodgers who opened the scoring in the 2nd inning. After walking Shohei Ohtani and giving up a single to Teoscar Hernandez, Misiorowski struck out Max Muncy for the first out.

Andy Pages then hit a single, which saw Ohtani score and make it a 1-0 game. While the LA-based side loaded up the bases, Kike Hernandez grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Turang brought his team back on level terms with a huge home run in the 4th inning. The 2nd baseman, who had just 2 hits in the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the San Diego Padres, smashed an opposite-field home run against Skubal.

A single from Luis Lara in the 5th inning turned the game around and put the Brewers up 2-1. While Skubal went 5 innings and picked up 7 strikeouts, he ended up as the losing pitcher as the NL Central champions held on to the lead and won Game 1.

After the game, Brice Turang joined the FOX Sports MLB crew for an interview. During this, he received a special “MY DAWG” T-shirt from MLB Hall of Famer David Ortiz.

For the unknown, this “MY DAWG” T-shirt giveaway is a tradition started by Ortiz. This tradition is designed to celebrate “clutch” moments in the postseason.

Last year, “Big Papi” gave these T-shirts to Addison Barger and Will Smith for their performances in Games 1 and 2 of the World Series, respectively. Barger, who hit a pinch-hit grand slam in Game 1, refused to take the T-shirt as it had a photo of Ortiz in his Boston Red Sox jersey.

Ortiz then threw a playful jab at the Toronto Blue Jays star. In the end, the Dodgers ended up winning the World Series. So Turang did not take any chances and happily accepted the gift.

Brice Turang’s home run was a rare one in MLB

Brice Turang was the hero for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 as his huge home run against Tarik Skubal brought his team back into the game. His home run against the southpaw was indeed a rare one.

Turang, a left-handed hitter, smashed an opposite-field home run against left-handed pitcher Skubal to tie the game at 1-1. As per Jake Mintz, this was just the 3rd left-on-left opposite-field HR in MLB this season. The other two belonged to Shohei Ohtani.

The 26-year-old hitter did not have the best of times in the NLDS against the Padres, going 2-for-16 in the 4 games. While speaking with the reporters after the game, he revealed that he spent some extra time in the batting cage in the last couple of days.

Very blessed to have some guys that were staying late with me helping me out through those times. … I don’t do it very often. I just felt like I needed to stay after and get some more swings in.

Brice Turang said as per Hunter Baumgardt

Turang went 1-for-15 in the NLCS last year against the Dodgers. His side ended up getting swept 4-0 and had a disappointing end to their season last time out.

The win in Game 1 was their first playoff win over the Dodgers in 8 years. They will now look to repeat what they did on Sunday and take a 2-0 series lead into Los Angeles.
