The Los Angeles Dodgers went down 2-1 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday night. Following the loss, manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the challenge of the NL Central side and expressed that it was “going to be a long series.”

This year’s NLCS is a rematch from last year. In 2025, the Dodgers won Game 1 2-1 and went on to sweep the Brewers 4-0 and advance to the World Series for a second year running.

The 2026 season saw these two sides finish with the best records in the National League. In fact, they were the only two teams in the entire league to win at least 100 games.

On Sunday, the Dodgers were the ones who opened the scoring. In the second inning, they worked Jacob Misiorowski and took the lead on a single from Andy Pages. However, they were unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded situation as Kike Hernandez grounded into a double play.

In the 4th inning, the Brewers tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run from Brice Turang. The 2nd baseman hit an opposite-field home run off Tarik Skubal.

The hosts then took the lead in the 5th inning on a single by Luis Lara. The Dodgers were not able to put up any more runs on the board and lost 2-1. Skubal, who had 7 strikeouts and lasted longer than Misiorowski, ended up as the losing pitcher.

This was the Brewers’ first win over the Dodgers in a postseason game in 8 years. With the win, they landed the first punch and took a 1-0 series lead in this best-of-seven championship series.

In the regular season, the Brewers went 4-3 against them. During the post-game conference, Roberts acknowledged the challenge of their opponents and claimed it will be a long series.

I mean, you can’t go into a long series against a team that has the best record in baseball and expect to just win four. It’s going to be a long series. We knew it coming in, and we had our chances, but they made plays, pitches when they needed to. And we just got to reset.

Dave Roberts said as per Sportsnet LA

For Game 2, the two-time defending champions will have Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. Last year, he went the distance in Game 2 and tossed a complete game. Roberts and his team will be hoping for a similar performance from him on Monday.

Freddie Freeman not worried about Dodgers’ loss in Game 1

The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have the best of games offensively in NLCS Game 1 against the Milwaukee Brewers. They went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and left 9 runners on base. Despite this, Freddie Freeman is not worried about his team’s form.

Statistically, the Dodgers had more hits (7) and fewer strikeouts (8) than the Brewers, who had 6 hits and 13 strikeouts. However, the Brewers were more clinical than their opponents in the opening game of the championship series.

Any loss in the playoffs is not great, but it’s a long series. It’s just the first game.

Freddie Freeman said as per Sportsnet LA

Freeman went 1-for-4 in the game with 1 strikeout and grounded out into a double play in the 5th inning. He and his team will need to take their chances if they are to avoid falling down 0-2 in the series.

The last time the Dodgers lost back-to-back games in the NLCS was in 2021 when they lost Games 1 and 2 against the Atlanta Braves. That series was also a rematch from the previous year’s NLCS, which the Dodgers had won 4-3.
