CJ Gardner-Johnson was ejected for spitting when the Buffalo Bills played the Las Vegas Raiders. The Bills safety denied the allegations after the game.

Gardner-Johnson is an infamous trash-talker who has often gotten himself into trouble. Although the NFL disciplined him in the past, the 28-year-old didn’t learn his lesson.

During the Buffalo Bills Week 6 fixture against the Las Vegas Raiders, the referee ejected CJ Gardner-Johnson for spitting at a Raiders player.

After the game, reporters asked CJGJ about the incident, and flat out refused to own it.

I gotta be a better player, gotta be a better vet. I let my emotions get the best of me, and I hurt my team. They brought me here to play in big games like this. So, I gotta do better, control my emotions, nothing crazy.

But clips circulating across X and other social media platforms tell a different story. Gardner-Johnson was seen spitting in close proximity to several Raiders players, including tight end Brock Bowers and center Tyler Linderbaum. Despite that, CJGJ said it was “nothing egregious.“

A call was made. A flag was made. We went to chirping. And I guess, you know, just being competitive. Like I said, nothing towards Brock and nothing towards the team… There was nothing negative.

CJ Gardner-Johnson said.

Reporters asked Bowers about the incident post-game. The All-Pro athlete said he doesn’t know exactly what triggered Gardner-Johnson’s reaction. Linderbaum said such incidents do not belong in the game.

Bills head coach Joe Brady was happy with the hard-fought victory but sounded off when asked about Gardner-Johnson’s ejection.

The discipline of our football team has to improve, and that sure as hell can’t happen. The team is bigger than that, the situation is bigger than that, everything is bigger, and it can’t happen.

CJ Gardner-Johnson issued an apology for his ‘spit-gate’ incident in Week 6

Gardner-Johnson isn’t someone who backs out of a fight. Even though he’s not the tallest guy on the field, the Super Bowl winner is always ready to give his opponents an earful.

Some fans love seeing that quality in a DB. But more often than not, Garner-Johnson loses his head like Sunday’s incident in Vegas. Although he refused to own his actions to the press, the former Florida Gator posted a lengthy apology on Instagram.

My passion and competitive nature have always been a huge part of who I am, but I also understand that there is a line that should never be crossed. The gesture I made toward my opponent was inappropriate, unnecessary, and not a reflection of the respect I have for him or this game. There is no excuse for my actions, and I take full accountability.

Two weeks ago, Gardner-Johnson gave up a touchdown pass to second-year Patriots receiver Efton Chism. As a result, Buffalo suffered its first defeat of the campaign. After the game, he implied that people would forget the touchdown because Chism wasn’t a famous player.

Last season, the Texans cut him after he got embroiled in a verbal and physical altercation with Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Ravens signed him to the practice squad, but he lasted just seven days.

He spent the final stretch of the campaign with the Bears. He made 51 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 TFLs, 4 passes defensed, and one forced fumble, but the Bears still released him after the season ended.

CJGJ won a ring in his second stint with the Eagles. During the victory parade, he wore questionable gear targeting pop icon Taylor Swift, who is also the wife of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whom the Eagles defeated in the Super Bowl. The Eagles cut ties with him a few days later.

The New Orleans Saints drafted CJ Gardner-Johnson with the 105th overall pick in 2019. He has racked up 395 tackles, 27 TFLs, 57 passes defensed, 21 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, one forced return, and one touchdown in 92 games.
