Aaron Boone will return to the New York Yankees in 2027. As per reports, the 53-year-old will be back for his final year of his contract next year despite another playoff disappointment this season.
The 2026 season was another campaign where the Yankees had to suffer an early exit from the playoffs. After finishing with a 93-69 record, Boone and his team swept the Boston Red Sox in the AL Wild Card Series and faced the Tampa Bay Rays in the best-of-five division series.
Like the regular season, the Rays once again had the upper hand against them. The AL East champions swept their division rivals 3-0 and handed them a division series exit for a second year running.
With their elimination, there were once again talks regarding the future of Boone. Many fans raised their voice and demanded a change in managerial position.
However, as per reports from Pete Caldera, the team will not be making a change yet. He will return to the Yankees next year and be their manager once again.

It was in February 2025 that the Yankees extended Boone’s contract. He was given a 2-year, $10.5 million contract extension that would run through the 2027 season. The team has yet to announce his return officially.
In 9 seasons with the Yankees, Boone has guided the team to 3 AL East division titles and 8 playoff berths, only missing the postseason in 2023. During this tenure, the Bronx Bombers have reached the American League Championship Series (ALCS) 3 times while making it to the World Series in 2024, where they lost 4-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boone is nothing but a punching bag for the organization anyway. Cashman is the one who really needs to go. And we all know he’s not going anywhere. Hal Steinbrenner is a coward & undeserving of this franchise.

Speaking of his record, he is 790-565 in 1,355 games. It is his playoff record that has caught flak. With the sweep at the hands of the Rays, he is 27-30 in postseason games.
Former Yankees manager backs Aaron Boone after tough 2026 season
Aaron Boone is under the heat after another playoff failure with the New York Yankees. Recently, a former Yankees manager, however, backed him and claimed this was the best year of his management career.

Offensively this season, Boone and his team missed their captain, Aaron Judge. The outfielder was diagnosed with a rib fracture in early June and missed over 3 months of action. Following a brief return in September, he went on the injured list once again and did not feature in the postseason.
In an appearance at The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, ex-Yankees manager Joe Girardi lauded Boone and claimed that he had to flip games this year to win.
I think you could argue this was his best year of managing. … he had to flip the way they won games. They had to win them from a pitching standpoint, different from some of the years past. … I think he ran the bullpen extremely well and got the most out of those guys.

Boone will now have one more chance to deliver the championship to the Yankees. Their current 17-year drought is the second-longest championship drought in franchise history.
