The Oklahoma City Thunder were forced to let go of a few key players to ensure they could stay under the vaunted second apron. From then on, it was clear that the team would depend on the Big 3 of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren, along with their supporting cast.
The trio has been quite the handful for opposing teams over the past few years. After stamping their authority to win the 2025 NBA Championship, they could not repeat, as injuries to Williams and a motivated Victor Wembanyama became their undoing.
The 25-year-old tried to return in the playoffs, but was again sidelined. Without him, SGA and the rest could not deploy another offensive option against the San Antonio Spurs.
After that disappointment, Williams dedicated his offseason to recovering and getting ready for this season. He struggled with rust in the season-opening revenge game against the Spurs.
But in the second game, he made sure Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s record-setting streak ending did not stop the Thunder from winning. He reverted to playing second fiddle in their game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
With just a little more than a minute left, the away team were close and started to clamp down on SGA. To ensure his team had a fighting chance to win, the reigning two-time league MVP drove to the basket and passed the ball to Jalen Williams streaking down the lane.

The 6’5″ guard with a $287 million contract caught the pass and elevated for a dunk. However, as he came down, his left leg was caught underneath him. Immediately, it was evident that he suffered a fracture near his ankle.
Fans left stunned by Jalen Williams’ horrific injury
Such gruesome injuries do not get published on official pages since the league and its broadcast partners have to keep in mind the sensitivity of that incident. However, clips of it did circulate on social media, giving fans a front-row seat to this gruesome injury.
Since then, fans have been either sending Jalen Williams messages of support or reacting, revealing how shocked they were to watch his ankle break. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Injuries of this nature require a long period of recovery. Therefore, there is likely no chance that Jalen Williams will play another game this season. That is, unless he does a Jayson Tatum and recovers fast enough to make it back.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was in tears after witnessing Jalen Williams’ injury
When Jalen Williams went down with the injury, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was right beside him. The latter saw the injury first, before even Williams realized what was wrong.

The Canadian was shaken up and pulled his jersey over his face. His emotions were running high, and tried to fight tears as he waited for his teammate to be taken off via a stretcher. But the waterworks eventually broke out when speaking to the media after the win.
I just feel bad for him.
