Debating LeBron James’ Legacy Leads to Charles Barkley Needing Towels and AC

Charles Barkley has generally dismissed any conversation placing LeBron James over Michael Jordan in the GOAT debate.

After LeBron James and his Philadelphia 76ers got off to a winning start, discussions took off about the superstar’s impact on his new team and how a potential championship or two could shape his legacy. The most recent ones happen to be Charles Barkley and the Inside the NBA crew.

The superstar is the only player in league history to lead three different championship-winning teams. That, in itself, led to some debates about whether he deserved a statue at all three arenas.

His time with the Cleveland Cavaliers is legendary, simply because not only did he bring the franchise out of obscurity, but also led them to their first-ever championship.

Even though Super Team allegations plagued his time with the Miami Heat, what he did for the organization has led many to believe that he should get a statue no matter what.

Then comes the Los Angeles Lakers, and many believe that even though he led them to their 17th title, the eight years there were marred by disappointments. However, that narrative could change if James wins one with the 76ers.

While discussing this on the show, host Ernie Johnson implied, with facts, that the 41-year-old put together four Hall of Fame-worthy stints in his career. Hearing this, Charles Barkley said:

He stacked the teams… Guess he got six to seven championships then. Oh, he doesn’t.

Charles Barkley said

The Round Mound of Rebound looked visibly agitated and said Michael Jordan won six championships with the same team. On the other hand, LeBron James won just four. Therefore, he isn’t Hall of Fame-worthy because he couldn’t do better than four despite having stacked teams at his disposal.

Shaquille O’Neal takes subtle jab at Charles Barkley with Suns Super Team joke

By the time Charles Barkley ended his initial argument, it was evident that the Hall of Famer was sweating profusely. The discussion probably got him hot enough that he was in that state. But that did not stop the debate from continuing.

He stacked his team, that’s what you’re supposed to do… You stacked your team in Phoenix.

Shaquille O’Neal said

The four-time champion has generally defended LeBron James joining stacked teams to win titles. With this comment, Shaquille O’Neal tried to tell his colleague that Barkley, too, joined a stacked team in Phoenix, with whom he reached the NBA Finals.

At this point, the 63-year-old tried to reason that he did not necessarily have a stacked team with the Suns. Fellow analyst Kenny Smith supported him, dismissing the stacked-team claims.

But the Diesel continued to defend James by suggesting that, as a superstar, he is within his rights to demand players he can win with. O’Neal stated that he won four championships doing just that. Therefore, there was nothing that could be taken away from James’ legacy.

Heated LeBron James debate necessitated towels and AC to cool down Charles Barkley

By the end of this argument, Ernie Johnson signaled over to the Inside the NBA crew to come over with some towels. Their lead personnel staffer brought out two towels, placed one over Charles Barkley‘s neck, and gave him the other to wipe his face.

After Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith trolled the Philadelphia 76ers great for heating up over a LeBron James legacy argument, they proceeded to ask that the air conditioning inside Studio J be turned up so that Chuck could calm down.

This is the last season Charles Barkley, and possibly Ernie Johnson, are going to appear on Inside the NBA. The Chuckster has already announced on various platforms that he is going to hang up his shoes, and Johnson could announce his retirement anytime.

The last thing anyone at TNT or ESPN wants is to watch either of them suffer a health scare before they walk into the sunset. After all, neither of them is a spring chicken anymore.
