The Milwaukee Brewers took another major step towards their first World Series title with a thumping 10-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 on Monday night. The National League side is not only 1 win away from winning it all, but they are also on the cusp of a historic postseason feat.
The Brewers took to the field on Monday following an epic comeback win in Game 2. After going down 4-0 in the first inning, they came all the way back to win 5-4 and took a 2-0 series lead.
In MLB history, 79 out of 95 times have team won a best-of-seven postseason series after taking a 2-0 lead. With momentum firmly on their side, they ended up crushing the Rays in front of their fans at Tropicana Field on Monday.
They took the lead in the 3rd inning on a single by Christian Yelich. William Contreras, who was the team’s hero in Game 1, drove in another run before getting tagged out at 2nd base.
It was the 5th inning, where The Brew Crew blew away their opponents. Jackson Chourio led the charge in this inning, as he batted twice and registered two hits.
Contreras, Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, and David Hamilton all registered hits in this inning as the Brewers put up 8 more runs on the board.

Chourio ended up going 4-for-5 with one stolen base and raised his World Series batting average to .571 in 3 games. The only positive for the Rays in this game was that they avoided getting shutout as a double from Yandy Diaz made it a 10-1 game in the 9th inning.
The Brewers are now closing in on a historic feat as they inch closer to their first championship title. Since losing Game 3 of the National League Division Series (NLDS) against the San Diego Padres, the NL Central side has been perfect.
They won Game 4 to eliminate the Padres and then swept the 2-time defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-0 in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). With 3 straight wins against the Rays, they now have won 8 successive games in this postseason.
They have tied the 2004 Boston Red Sox, the 2006 Chicago White Sox, the 2014 Kansas City Royals, and the 2019 Washington Nationals to win 8 straight postseason games. A win on Tuesday will not clinch a first World Series title but will also make them the first team to win 9 successive games in a single playoff run.

The Brewers have already scripted history this postseason with their sweep of the Dodgers in the NLCS. They became the first team to sweep a team that had swept them in the playoffs last season. Now they are looking to add another historic feat to their name as they chase baseball immortality.
How many times has the World Series ended in a sweep? Brewers looking to join exclusive club with victory in Game 4
The Milwaukee Brewers took a 3-0 lead in the World Series and pushed the Tampa Bay Rays to the verge of a historic sweep. This led to a question: how many times has the World Series ended in a sweep?

In MLB history, there have been 21 sweeps in the World Series. However, two of them were in 1907 and 1922, when the teams went 4-0 with 1 tie game.
So speaking of clean 4-0 sweeps, there have been 19 such instances in World Series history. The last time this happened was in 2012 when the San Francisco Giants crushed the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on the back of a historic 3-run home run game in Game 1 from Pablo Sandoval and a pitching masterclass by Madison Bumgarner.

As for the Rays, they will have to pull off the greatest comeback in sports history to win the title from this position. The odds are obviously heavily stacked against them.
A win for the Brewers would also mark a 3rd straight year where an AL East team would lose in the World Series. The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays lost in the 2024 and 2025 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
