The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series at Tropicana Field. Following the game, manager Pat Murphy hailed youngster Jackson Chourio and compared his mindset to late-great Kobe Bryant.

Chourio has been one of the team’s finest stars in the postseason this year. He already had a huge moment in the playoffs this year with his wild walk-off hit in Game 2 of the National League Division Series (NLDS) against Mason Miller of the San Diego Padres.

In Game 3 of the World Series on Monday, Chourio showcased his immense talent once again. He went 4-for-5 with one stolen base as his side dismantled the hosts to go up 3-0.

It was in the 5th inning that Chourio and the Brewers blew aside the Rays. While leading 2-0, the National League Champions started the inning with a lineout.

Chourio then hit a single off Freddy Peralta. After Jake Bauers flew out for the second out of the inning, he stole the 2nd base. Christian Yelich then drew a walk before an overturned out call loaded the bases for the Brew Crew.

Peralta left the game and was replaced by Cam Booser. The Rays’ relief pitcher was unable to escape the jam as a single from Brice Turang, a single from Garrett Mitchell, a double from Cooper Pratt, and a double from Sal Frelick made it an 8-0 game.

Booser was then replaced and exited the game without recording an out. David Hamilton then hit a single, which brought up Chourio again. He registered his second hit of the inning, a double to center field, which made it a 10-0 game.

The Rays got one run back in the 9th inning as a double from Yandy Diaz denied the Brewers a shutout win. The American League champions were second-best in every department and were crushed in front of their fans.

The Brewers are now 1 win away from winning the World Series. However, as Kobe Bryant once said, “Job’s not finished.”

In the press conference after their Game 3, Murphy lauded Chourio. The Brewers’ skipper compared his mentality to the basketball great.

It’s pretty special what this kid’s doing. … He is turning into a fine player. He is understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes. He’s coming into his own. … Kobe strived to get better and better and better and better every year because he was so disciplined. He was such a worker. He had such an attitude. Jackson’s on that same track.

Pat Murphy said regarding Jackson Chourio

In 3 World Series games, Chourio has 8 hits and is batting with a .571 average. These performances have made him a strong candidate for the World Series MVP honor.

As per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, at 22 years and 229 days, Chourio became the second-youngest player in MLB history to have 4 hits and 1 stolen base in a World Series game. He is only behind Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, who achieved this feat in Game 3 of the 1908 World Series at 21 years and 299 days.

He is also the youngest player since Joe Garagiola (20y 240d) to have a 4-hit game in the World Series.

Following his performance, he also received a special gift from David Ortiz. During the postgame show on FOX Sports, the Hall of Famer gave him his signature “My Dawg” T-Shirt. He had given one earlier in this postseason to Brice Turang following his heroics in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Brewers are now on the cusp of glory. A win on Tuesday would see them complete the sweep of the Rays and clinch a first World Series title in their franchise history.
