Berrettini has had a mixed season so far. The Italian started his season at the ATP Cup where he notched only one win out of 3 matches, which was against Daniil Medvedev. At the Australian Open, the 25-year-old was not in his top form but eventually reached the semi-finals after being stretched to the distance in most of his matches. Out of his matches in Melbourne, only one was a straight-set victory. In the semis, he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. Berrettini entered the Rio Open as the top seed but his title fight ended in the quarter-finals itself with a three-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz, who then went on to win his maiden ATP title.

Berrettini had to withdraw from the ATP Finals last year due to injury and had to end his season as a result. There is no respite for him from injuries this year as well, he had to withdraw from his opening round clash in Acapulco with an abdominal injury. Now, he will look to bring his season back on track as he set sights on having a better outing at the Indian Wells, which begins next week.
