“Entertainment till the last ball”- The Netherlands’ tight victory in a thriller against UAE by 3 wickets
The Netherlands vs UAE
UAE bowlers showed nerve till the end, but that wasn’t enough to defend 113. The Netherlands put on a show to win the tournament’s second match by three wickets on Sunday, October 16, at the GMHBA in Geelong.
Only one ball was left before Scott Edwards took a single and ended the match in their favor. The game started when UAE won the toss and opted to bat first. Muhammad Waseem was the top scorer with 47-ball 41 runs (with a boundary and two sixes).
He was dismissed on the last ball of the 16th over off Fred Klaassen. Klaassen bowled a shorter one angled into the body, making Waseem go for a pull. But hitting the top-edge, the ball went towards the long on. Tim Pringle ran there to grab a catch.
Vriitya Aravind was the next high-scorer with his 18-run knock; Kashif Daud scored 15 runs, while opener Chirag Suri could add 12 runs. Apart from these batters, others couldn’t do much.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, completed the target with combined batting. Although no one scored big runs, Max O-Dowd scored the most, 23 runs, while Colin Ackermann scored a 19-ball 17 runs.
Bas de Leede and Vikramjit Singh added 14 and 10 runs, respectively. However, as the Netherlands kept losing wickets, skipper-wicketkeeper Scott Edwards remained glued to the crease till the end. He scored 16 runs off 19 balls. When one run was needed to win, he took a single to guide his team to victory.
UAE bowlers were praiseworthy as they almost defended a low target of 112. Bowler Junaid Siddique scalped three wickets.
