For a second year running, the New York Yankees will be playing in the American League Wild Card Series. The big question is whether they will be without their captain, Aaron Judge. On Wednesday, the reigning AL MVP revealed his intention of playing in the playoffs despite his current injury concerns.

Judge experienced some tightness in his lower body last Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. After striking out twice, he left the game in the 6th inning.

An MRI scan on Thursday revealed that he had suffered a right calf strain. This led to the Yankees placing him on the 10-day injured list.

The last thing the Yankees wanted was to see their superstar head to the IL once again. He had just returned to action earlier this month after being out for more than 3 months due to a right rib fracture.

This latest setback raised several concerns regarding him missing the playoffs. Insider Joel Sherman believed that there is a strong possibility that his season was over.

Judge, however, has not given up yet. Despite his injury concerns, he wants to play in the playoffs.

The Bronx is a magical place in October. I don’t want to miss out on that opportunity.

Aaron Judge told reporters as per SNY

In his career with the Yankees, he has not missed a single playoff game. He wants to continue this record and be available for selection for the Wild Card series next week.

The 8-time All-Star also expressed that he is trying to come back as a right fielder instead of playing as the designated hitter (DH). Given his recent health problems, many have urged him to become a full-time DH instead of playing in the outfield.

On Tuesday, the Yankees manager said Judge received a platelet-poor plasma (PPP) injection. He also said the slugger had a “moderate grade” strain and that the team wasn’t banking on him being available for the Wild Card Series.

While reacting to this, Judge expressed that he does not know why Boone used those words.

Everybody’s moderate is a little different. I don’t know why he used those words.

Aaron Judge said regarding Aaron Boone’s comments

After Judge’s return from the rib fracture, he went 4-for-23 with 13 strikeouts, one walk, and 1 home run in 24 plate appearances. Overall, he has 18 home runs and 41 runs with a .241 batting average.

For the playoffs, the Yankees will likely face their rivals, the Boston Red Sox, unless something drastic happens. This would mark a second straight year where the two teams will compete in the best-of-three Wild Card Series round. The winner of this series will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the best-of-five American League Division Series (ALDS).
