On Sunday, the New York Yankees failed to complete the sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies as they lost 11-4. After the game, captain Aaron Judge met the reporters and proceeded to drop a diplomatic take regarding the upcoming trade deadline that left some fans angry.
After losing the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers to start the 2nd half, the Yankees bounced back and won 2 out of the 3 games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. With a 1-0 and 3-1 win against the Phillies, the AL East side was hoping to complete the sweep on Sunday.
That did not happen as the NL East side finally put up some runs. The defeat left the Bronx Bombers with a 59-46 record.
With the trade deadline approaching, the Yankees are expected to be buyers once again this year. When reporters asked Judge about his evaluation regarding the Yankees’ current roster, the 3-time MVP claimed that this was something above his “pay grade.”
That’s way above my pay grade. We got a good team where we’re at. That’s what you can do as a player. You’ve got to put yourself and your team in the best position to give the front office the ability to go out there and get the final pieces. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

According to reports, the Yankees have checked Washington Nationals star CJ Abrams. While the Nationals are not shopping their shortstop, they are listening to offers regarding him.

The shortstop is one position that the New York side could use an upgrade. They have struggled a bit here, with Anthony Volpe making a few errors.
Another name they have linked with is Hunter Goodman. As per Jorge Castillo, they have held trade discussions with the Colorado Rockies catcher.

Last year, the team made several moves before the deadline. They brought in stars like Camilo Doval, Jake Bird, David Bednar, Jose Caballero, Ryan McMahon, and Amed Rosario.
Yankees fans slam Aaron Judge for his comments regarding the team’s current roster
While the New York Yankees have been linked with some big names, they have not made any official moves. In the midst of this, Aaron Judge found himself under backlash for his diplomatic take regarding the team’s current roster.

Fans on X believed that Judge could have worded his sentence better. His “pay grade” comment did not sit well with some, given that he earns $40 million per year. One user wrote, “PR Champion” while making their feelings known.
Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

He probably gets payed more than the guy that makes those decisions tho….

Judge makes 40 million a year opposed to Cashman's 5 million. Pay grade is a poor analogy. Maybe he meant rank instead of pay grade.

Love Judge, but he will never be a person to call his team out publicly in any way. Like a Freddie Freeman type.

In my opinion, Judge should’ve used this opportunity to exercise his influence with the Yankees. This was the perfect moment to make it clear that he wants to see significant moves made by the people who are “above his pay grade” https://t.co/GfhCgHVoqB

Speaking of Judge, he has been out of action since June. The outfielder suffered a rib fracture during a game in late April and has been dealing with the effects of it. Recent reports claimed that there was some healing in his rib.
Aaron Judge issued a blunt answer when asked about his health
Aaron Judge has been absent from the Yankees lineup since early June. Last week, reports revealed that his rib had healed a bit. When asked about his health on Sunday, the 34-year-old gave a blunt answer.

His re-imaging showed a little progress in healing. It has, however, not healed to a point where he could resume baseball activities. The Yankees expect him to return to the lineup around September.
When a reporter tried to ask him for an update on his health, he cut him short and said he had nothing for them.
I got nothing for you.
Aaron Judge told the reporters
The Yankees were 36-23 after the series against the Athletics, where Judge suffered some discomfort. He missed the series against the Cleveland Guardians and underwent an MRI scan.
With the loss on Sunday, the Yankees are 59-46. In the absence of Judge, they have gone 23-23. They will hope to improve this record a bit as they chase the Tampa Bay Rays, who at the moment are 3 games ahead of them in the division standings.
